Probation and Parole Caseworker
Full Time, Term to March 31, 2026
It is the mission of Tungasuvvingat Inuit (TI) to broadly provide Inuit-specific programs that contribute to the health and wellbeing of Inuit and to encourage and support similar programs for Inuit across the country. TI has over 30 years of highly successful experience in crafting the design, development, and delivery of a wide range of effective, client-centered services. By incorporating the principles of Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit (IQ), TI continues to deliver quality programs and services that directly benefit our growing urban Inuit population.
The focus of this position is to provide support for individuals in the Ottawa Urban Inuit community in the Probation & Parole system. In conjunction with Ottawa Centre Probation and Parole Services, Ministry of Solicitor General, the Caseworker is responsible for coordinating client care, specifically tailored with culturally relevant and appropriate approaches
Responsibilities:
- Provide case consultations with Ottawa Probation & Parole Services to ensure agency interactions and interventions are done in a culturally sensitive and appropriate way.
- Utilize and incorporate the 8 Guiding Principles of Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit and Inuit traditional teachings for program content and relevancy.
- Follow the policies and procedures of TI and consult with Pisiksik Justice Department as needed.
- Complete all required administrative duties of the role including (but not limited to) manage intake, coordinate data gathering, maintain accurate client files and completing timely case notes in the appropriate electronic systems and assisting in project reporting requirements.
- Develop a trusting relationship with clients, identify needs, create strengths-based and goal-focused safety/care plans and regularly adjust plans to adapt to changing circumstances of clients.
- Support clients and assist them in advancing their rights and overcoming barriers to receive care, provide objective information about processes (e.g. legal system processes) and options to making informed decisions.
- Coordinate reintegration or rehabilitation referrals to TI’s culturally safe services, supports and resources, including access to (but not limited to): Counseling- including Inuit Elder support: Community wellness activities; Legal support services; Housing support; Health, Mental Wellness, and addiction treatment services; Parenting programs; Food security; Education, employment and training.
- Build and maintain relationships, forging partnerships through outreach, education and information exchange with organizations across Ottawa.
- Create positive working relationships and collaborate with other staff at TI, Inuuqatigiit, and other Indigenous and non-Indigenous agencies to provide integrated and coordinated support for the client to help meet their needs and goals.
Qualifications
Knowledge of the 8 Guiding Principles of Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuit culture, values and traditional practices or a willingness to learn and a strong working knowledge of community resources and TI programming is required. Knowledge of the legacy of: Inuit colonization; Residential Schools; Intergenerational traumas; Ontario’s Inuit history; the Ontario justice system; Social determinants of health/socio-economic issues/needs is required. Strong organizational and time and case management skills; crisis/risk management skills; excellent communication and community engagement skills.
Computer literacy skills (word processing, publication, data collection, e-mail, and internet) are required.
A clear Vulnerable Sector Check with results acceptable to TI is required. Availability to work evenings and weekends is preferred. The ability to speak Inuktitut is preferred.
Community College in Community Foundations and Indigenous Studies is required and Undergraduate Degree in Criminology and Psychology is preferred. CPR, Crisis Intervention and Prevention, Suicide Intervention and Prevention skills and training, Mental Health First Aid, Food Handling and Preparation and other relevant certifications are valued assets.

Salary and Benefits
- Salary range is $63,000 to $65,000 annually
- TI provides paid sickness, personal and family sickness leave days, and a 24/7 confidential Employee and Family Assistance Plan.
