PROFILE
The P&C Business Partner (HRBP) supports the Director, Firm Member Experience & Organizational Compliance by delivering strategic and operational People & Culture guidance aligned with firm-wide policies, employee experience priorities, and compliance requirements. The P&C BP acts as a trusted advisor to Business Services leaders and firm members, ensuring consistent application of People & Culture programs, policies, and practices.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Acts as a strategic partner to leaders, providing guidance on the interpretation and application of firm policies, procedures, and People & Culture initiatives, ensuring alignment with employment legislation and firm governance standards.
- Supports the implementation, communication, and continuous improvement of policies and programs related to firm member experience, organizational compliance, and workplace practices.
- Builds and maintains strong, trust-based relationships with firm members and leaders, fostering a positive, inclusive, and high-performing work environment.
- Advises, coaches, and supports leaders on performance management matters, including goal setting, feedback, performance improvement plans, progressive discipline, and terminations, ensuring consistency and fairness.
- Provides proactive employee relations support by identifying trends, assessing risk, and recommending practical, business-aligned solutions.
- Leads or contributes to P&C initiatives and projects (e.g., employee experience, compliance, process improvements), ensuring delivery within established timelines and alignment with firm priorities.
- Supports recruitment and workforce planning efforts in collaboration with leaders and Talent teams, ensuring alignment with resourcing needs and best practices.
- Partners with leadership and relevant stakeholders on compensation-related matters, ensuring alignment with firm frameworks and internal equity considerations.
- Supports the delivery and continuous improvement of employee programs (e.g., onboarding, wellness, learning initiatives) with a focus on engagement and experience.
- Prepares, analyzes, and interprets P&C metrics and reports to identify trends, inform decision-making, and drive continuous improvement.
- Contributes to firm-wide initiatives and committees (e.g., inclusion, health & safety, employee experience), ensuring alignment with People & Culture strategy.
- Ensures consistent application of policies and practices across teams, reinforcing governance, compliance (including applicable legislative requirements), and risk mitigation.
- Provides support across the broader People & Culture team as needed, particularly during periods of high volume or priority initiatives.
- Other related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
- 5+ years of progressive Human Resources experience, including advisory/business partner responsibilities.
- University degree or college diploma in Human Resources Management or a related field.
- CHRP/CHRL designation (or working towards), or equivalent experience, preferably within a professional services environment.
- Strong knowledge of HR policies, best practices, and employment legislation, with the ability to apply this knowledge in a practical, business-focused manner.
- Demonstrated ability to build credibility and strong relationships with stakeholders, providing proactive, solutions-oriented advice.
- Experience managing complex and sensitive employee relations matters with sound judgment, discretion, and professionalism.
- Strong communication, facilitation, and coaching skills, with the ability to influence at various levels of the organization.
- Experience supporting organizational change, employee experience initiatives, and/or compliance-driven environments is an asset.
- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret data and translate insights into actionable recommendations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with HRIS systems is an asset.
- Bilingualism (French/English) is an asset.

The starting range for this role is $67,000 to $100,000. Starting salary will be determined based on an applicant’s individual skills, competencies and unique qualifications. Gowling WLG employees have the potential to exceed this range based on tenure and performance.
