About the role
As the Lifting Specialist you will contribute to technical studies involving heavy lifting operations, such as ship sections, equipment, and other metal structures. Their role is to ensure that all lifting activities are safe, efficient, and compliant with current standards and regulations. More specifically, you will:

Promote and uphold Davie’s Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) culture in all lifting and handling operations.

Integrate safety into technical studies and operations, ensuring compliance with lifting regulations and best practices.

Identify and report HSE issues related to lifting, turning, and transportation, and contribute to risk mitigation for personnel, facilities, and equipment.

Contribute to secure operations, minimizing risks to personnel, facilities, and equipment.

Conduct engineering studies for handling structural elements in shipbuilding, including lifting, turning and transport plans
-
Recommend lifting point placement and reinforcement specifications to ensure mechanical integrity.

Perform mass balances and incorporate results into lifting solutions.
-
Collaborate with the Lifting Superintendent to validate feasibility and safety of proposed methods.
-
Monitor implementation of lifting studies during production and conduct onboard dimensional surveys to validate solutions.
-
Provide hands-on support during analysis and validation phases involving cranes, forklifts, and hoists.
-
Integrate field feedback into studies and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

With experience, take on responsibilities such as managing outsourced study packages, preparing calculation notes, conducting feasibility pre-studies for prototype vessels, and supporting technical documentation maintenance.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Mechanical/structural technical diploma or related field.
- Minimum of five (5) years’ significant experience in lifting operations, ideally in a shipyard or industrial environment.
- In-depth knowledge of lifting norms, standards, and regulations.
- Proficiency in lifting simulation and calculation software.
- Strong ability to work under pressure, manage multiple tasks, and collaborate within a team.
- High sense of safety, rigor, and precision.
- Strong problem-solving skills with innovative technical solutions.
- Bilingual (French and English). Proficiency in English is required for this position, as the incumbent will be required to interact with our English-speaking clients, partners, and suppliers
- Successful completion of the investigation and security clearance process required by the federal government’s Contract Security Program.
