About the role
Nature of the Position
Work involving the performance of various tasks in the field of carpentry, both inside and outside municipal buildings or facilities.
The work is carried out under general supervision. The employee receives instructions in the form of verbal or written directives, plans, or diagrams. The employee is required to carry out carpentry work in compliance with trade standards, including the maintenance, repair, and renovation of municipal buildings and various equipment components of municipal facilities. The employee is also responsible for manufacturing various wooden items and, for this purpose, uses the necessary woodworking machinery.
Responsibilities
- Moves and rebuilds partitions, installs and adjusts doors, windows, locks, and door handles.
- Installs or repairs paneling, moldings, baseboards, cabinets, or any other wooden or composite items.
- Installs or repairs door frames made of wood or steel.
- Erects scaffolding, assembles wooden structures required for building renovations, installs roofs and subfloors.
- Builds and assembles wooden formwork and molds for pouring cement or concrete.
- Builds or repairs boxes, tool handles, kiosks, ladders, frames, fences, signs, and protective panels.
- Constructs and installs shoring panels for excavations. Installs partitions and suspended ceilings made from various materials.
- Rough cuts, shapes, and assembles various wooden parts.
- Adjusts and operates various types of woodworking machinery.
- Prepares an inventory list of materials and tools in the workshop.
- Maintains a clean and orderly workshop.
- Drives the appropriate vehicle to carry out job-related tasks.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Knowledge of the properties and uses of different types of wood
- Good understanding of techniques, practices, and tools used in the trade
- Strong awareness of occupational risks and preventive methods
- Ability to carry out work according to trade standards
- Proficiency in using necessary tools
- Skill in cutting wood efficiently and minimizing waste
- Ability to read plans
- Ability to sketch and draw
- Must hold a valid Class 5 provincial driver’s license
- Must be able to read, write, and speak French
- Good understanding of spoken English
- Must hold a valid carpenter-joiner qualification certificate issued by the General Directorate of Manpower
- Some experience as a carpenter is required
