Job description

About Armour Security Armour Security & Protection Services Corp. is a professional security company providing security services across Canada. We support commercial, residential, hospitality, construction, industrial, government, property management, and retail clients with trained, licensed, and accountable security professionals. For over 14 years, Armour Security has built a reputation for reliability, professionalism, and operational accountability. Our teams are supported by 24/7 operations management, field supervision, site-specific training, and modern reporting technology.

Join Our Retail Security Team

Armour Security is hiring an experienced AST Retail Security Guard for a professional retail store in Vancouver, BC. This is an active retail security position for someone who brings confidence, presence, maturity, and real retail security experience. The successful candidate must be able to maintain a strong visible presence, support store staff, deter theft, manage difficult situations, and respond professionally to retail security incidents. This is not a basic standing post. We are looking for someone who understands retail security, loss prevention, de-escalation, trespass management, customer-facing professionalism, and lawful intervention. The right candidate will be alert, confident, well-presented, physically capable, and able to remain calm and professional in high-pressure situations.

Required Qualifications

Valid BC Security Worker Licence/BST. Valid Advanced Security Training (AST) certification. Minimum 2 years of security experience. Previous retail security or loss prevention experience is required. Strong working knowledge of the BC Trespass Act and retail trespass procedures. Experience dealing with shoplifting, trespassing, disruptive customers, theft recovery, or high-pressure retail incidents. Experience preparing clear and detailed incident reports. Must be legally entitled to work in Canada. Must have a valid work permit, if applicable.

Candidate Requirements

Strong professional presence and confidence. Comfortable working in an active, intervention-focused retail security environment. Able to remain calm, firm, and professional during conflict or high-pressure situations. Physically capable of standing, walking, responding to incidents, and assisting with lawful interventions when required. Well-groomed, professional, reliable, and punctual. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Strong observation skills and attention to detail. Able to follow site procedures, client expectations, and legal requirements. Able to stay focused throughout the shift and avoid unnecessary distractions.

Key Responsibilities

Maintain a strong, visible, and confident security presence in a professional retail environment. Support theft prevention, loss prevention, and overall store security operations. Monitor entrances, exits, sales floor areas, fitting rooms, and high-risk merchandise areas. Identify suspicious behaviour based on actions and conduct, not personal appearance or background. Assist store staff with theft-related incidents, trespass situations, disruptive behaviour, and difficult customer interactions. Use verbal de-escalation first and maintain a calm, professional approach during conflict. Professionally issue warnings, direction to leave, and trespass-related communication when required by site procedure. Assist with lawful intervention only when necessary, reasonable, proportionate, and permitted under training, policy, and law. Follow proper retail security procedures before making any stop or intervention. Prepare detailed incident reports, including times, descriptions, observations, warnings given, and actions taken. Communicate clearly with store management, Armour supervisors, police, and emergency services when required.

Preferred Experience

Retail security experience in a shopping centre, luxury retail, sporting goods, apparel, or high-traffic retail environment. Loss prevention experience. Experience issuing trespass warnings or dealing with individuals refusing to leave private property. Experience using mobile reporting or security reporting platforms. Experience working in a fast-paced public-facing environment.

Compensation

Starting wage: $22.00 per hour + 4.00% vacation pay. Wage increase after 3 month and 6 months of employment.

Application Requirement

Applicants must submit a clear photo of their valid BC Security Worker Licence/BST, front and back, with their application. Applicants must confirm they have valid Advanced Security Training (AST) certification. Applicants must be legally entitled to work in Canada. If applicable, applicants must be able to provide a valid work permit confirming their authorization to work in Canada. Applications that do not include a clear photo of the BST/security license front and back may not be considered.
