About the role

This role is accountable to support the monitoring and assessing the design adequacy and effectiveness of the claims control framework with a view of assessing the overall impact on Claims risks in line with the Business Standard. This role also supports the claims operations ability to respond to disruptions, maintain service levels, and protect customer and stakeholder trust.

You will work closely with the senior claims and risk leadership team to influence change based on the recommendations from the completed work. Some responsibilities will also entail identifying, measuring, monitoring, and resolving the issues within the control environment, as well as implementing preventative measures and testing their design effectiveness.

What You'll Do

  • Ensure timely testing of Claims and related mandatory controls, following ORCM methodology.
  • Identify gaps and emerging risks within the Claims operations; provide suggestions/action plans to remediate same.
  • Monitor the Claims risk and control status, by regularly reviewing controls, and assessing inherent and residual risk.
  • Maintenance of the iCare system (Aviva Canada GRC tool) and updating evidence when necessary.
  • Partner with the business to create action plans to remediate red controls / risk events and monitor progress on the control remediation.
  • Provide professional support and coordination of risk management activities through collaboration with second line risk and governance teams and Internal Audit.
  • Support the business in developing robust key risk indicators (KRIs) as necessary.
  • Support the business and senior leadership with timely and actionable risk reporting.
  • Develop and maintain business continuity plans (BCPs) for claims teams across regions and lines of business in conjunction with the business SME.
  • Conduct analysis to identify critical claims processes and dependencies and work with the business and central Operational Resilience team to ensure appropriate resilience and recovery measures.

What You'll Bring

  • CIP/FCIP or working towards one, CRM certificate is an asset
  • Minimum of 6-8 years in risk and control assessment experience with a Financial Institution
  • Data analysis using Qlik and Excel, including extraction, manipulation, and root cause analysis
  • Experience in report writing and power point presentations
  • Risk and Governance experience combined with coaching and mentoring
  • Detailed knowledge of the Claims Business standard and the associated Minimum compliance standards.
  • Industry best practice knowledge in managing claims operational effectiveness and resilience
  • Knowledge of Operational Risk
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
