Job Description Sunset Lodge is a home that provides person-centered care in our community, guided by Christ and rooted in love.

Job Purpose The Dietary Aide/Kitchen Assistant’s main responsibilities are to facilitate, transport, organize, stock, rotate, clean, sanitize, and serve their respective designated floor, food service area, and dining room, and assist the Cook with kitchen duties.

Characteristic Job Duties

  • Prepare specials according to tally list and prepare nourishments
  • Transport hot and cold food to and from dining room safely and efficiently
  • Serve residents in accordance with the resident profile information manual
  • Stock and rotate products using the FIFO method in designated dining room
  • Participate in Daily Food Services stand-up meetings
  • Transport dirty and clean dishes between the kitchen and dining room
  • Ensure nourishment cooler is stocked, rotated, clean, and visually appealing
  • Empty dining room garbage, slop buckets, and compost bins
  • Assist in portioning, wrapping, and storing meals and desserts, including dietary meals
  • Follow work practices to ensure efficient food service delivery
  • Clean dining area and food service equipment
  • Keep simple records and complete incident reports as necessary
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Note: Not all incumbents perform all duties listed above but perform a similar range of duties. Minimum Education Level Attained

  • High School diploma Note: An alternative level of education and experience may be acceptable.

Special Licenses, Diplomas, Certifications Or Requirements

  • Food Safe Level 1
  • WHMIS

Minimum Prior Related Experience

  • Up to 1 year of institutional kitchen experience or equivalent
  • Understanding of food safety practices
  • Excellent time-management skills
  • Ability to remain calm and focused in a fast-paced environment
  • Team spirit with a resident-focused attitude
  • Demonstrated ability to work positively and communicate effectively
  • Ability and willingness to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check screening.

Physical Effort/Dexterity Required

  • Frequent standing, food handling, lifting, carrying supplies, and walking
  • Required to lift more than 20 pounds

Work Environment

  • Typically in a kitchen in a ministry unit/social services facility

  • Conditions may include:

  • Hot/steamy environment

  • Noisy and crowded spaces

  • Timeline pressures

  • Weekend and early morning shifts

Exposure to Hazards

  • Moving and sharp objects
  • Electrical hazards
  • Lifting injuries
  • Slippery floors
  • Burns, cuts, freezer exposure

Precautionary Measures

  • Universal precautions
  • Use of rubber mats
  • Use of coats and gloves provided
  • Wear appropriate PPE when necessary

Compensation The target hiring range for this position is $24.34 to $24.34 with a maximum of $24.34.

Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
