Worker Type: Employee Job Post End Date: 07/23/2026 About this opportunity: The Coordinator, OCT (Operations Construction Team) Mechanical is responsible for supervising mechanical construction activities within an operating SAGD plant and associated field locations. Reporting to the Senior Coordinator, this role ensures the safe execution of work, compliance with applicable codes and standards, and the timely delivery of construction packages. The Mechanical Coordinator leads mechanical service providers, maintains quality control, and promotes effective communication between contractors, engineering, and operations to support safe and efficient project execution. While this vacancy is currently at Christina Lake North this posting could be used to fill vacancies at any of the Oil Sands Operations sites (Christina Lake, Christina Lake North, Foster Creek, or Sunrise, based on business need). Work Environment: This is a full-time employee position working a shift rotation All Oil Sands Operations sites have full-service camp facilities and recreational amenities. Transportation: Depending on your place of residence and your shift rotation, bus and/or air transportation to/from site is offered from designated departure points in select locations. Foster Creek is serviced by flight Hubs in Calgary and Edmonton as well as bus transportation to site from La Corey, AB. Christina Lake is serviced by flight Hubs in Calgary and Edmonton as well as bus transportation to site from La Corey, AB. and Lac La Biche, AB. Christina Lake North is serviced by flight hubs in Calgary and Edmonton. Sunrise is serviced by flight hubs in Calgary and Edmonton. What you’ll do: Provide mechanical construction oversight within an operating SAGD facility and associated field locations, ensuring work is executed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company and regulatory requirements. Lead and coordinate mechanical contractors and service providers, including welders, pipefitters, laborers, and equipment operators, to successfully deliver assigned construction scopes. Promote and enforce a strong safety culture by ensuring compliance with all applicable safety procedures, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), energized work, confined space entry, and ground disturbance requirements. Ensure all work is performed in accordance with site procedures, project workflows, Cenovus specifications, and applicable industry codes, standards, and regulatory requirements. Verify construction quality through inspections, field walkdowns, and documentation sign-offs, ensuring work meets design intent, quality expectations, and operational readiness criteria. Monitor construction progress against approved schedules and budgets, providing accurate status updates and proactively communicating risks, variances, and mitigation plans to the Senior Coordinator and Project Controls team. Collaborate with Engineering, Operations, and contractors to manage scope changes, resolve field execution challenges, and support timely decision-making. Support the completion of construction and turnover documentation, ensuring a smooth and efficient handover to Operations while meeting project schedule, cost, quality, and startup objectives. Who you are: Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum requirements: Legally authorized to work in Canada A certified Journeyman Pipefitter or Welder Minimum of 8+ years of experience in mechanical construction, preferably within oil sands, SAGD, or large industrial projects. Strong working knowledge of safety requirements and industry codes and standards. Experience with SAP and construction documentation and turnover processes is considered an asset. We acknowledge the value of transferrable skills and may consider equivalent combinations of experience and education should you not meet a specific requirement. As this position has been identified as safety sensitive, employment of a final candidate selected for this position will be conditional upon successful completion of required pre-employment medical and alcohol/drug assessments. For this position you will be required to maintain a Class 5 driver's license, a satisfactory driving record, and adhere to the appropriate Company policies and guidelines. A driver's abstract will be one of the background checks requested in the pre-employment screening for the final candidate.
