The Opportunity

The Child and Family Programs (CFP), Service Delivery team within the Ministry of Social Services is launching aSummer 2026 Pilot Programoffering summer Case Assistant positions for people who have previously been involved with or in the care of theMinistry of Social ServicesorFirst Nations Child and Family Services (FNCFS). This initiative aims to support participants’ career and educational growth by providing meaningful exposure to ministry work froma new and empowering perspective.

These roles are specifically targeted at applicants with prior family service involvement.

Reporting to the Supervisor, Child Protection, the student will:

  • Explore options for placements of children.
  • Arrange and supervise visits.
  • Transport children to and from placements.
  • Make referrals for support services for family.
  • Coordinate case conferences.
  • Research case files and provide information to support and implement established expectations for the child, family, extended family and others.

Your insights and perspectives are essential in shaping meaningful change and driving initiatives that support children, youth, and families. Ideal candidates will demonstrate strong leadership skills, a commitment to advocacy, and the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.

The****successful candidate will have lived experience and knowledge in:

  • Child abuse and neglect indicators and effects.
  • Poverty and other socioeconomic issues and how they impact people.
  • Human growth and development and the impact of influencing factors.
  • Systemic barriers that affect children, families, and communities.
  • Multicultural perspectives, with emphasis on First Nations and Metis beliefs, values and community dynamics.

Work Hours and Travel Requirements

This role involves regular non-standard working hours, including evenings as needed. Frequent travel within the province is required, and candidates must hold a valid Class 5 driver’s license.
