The Ministry of Parks, Culture and Sport's mission is to enhance economic growth and support quality of life by managing the provincial parks system and providing recreation, sport, heritage and cultural opportunities for residents and visitors. The Ministry is currently seeking a dynamic and highly motivated individual who is a flexible team player for the position of Park Gate Attendant for Blackstrap Provincial Park. Reporting to the Supervisor, this position will be involved in front-line work.

The park gate attendant position is the initial point of contact and acts as a public relations/customer service representative for the park as well as for the Provincial hunting and angling licensing system. Welcoming guests, providing them with information on park programs, amenities, answering questions, providing directions and educating the public on rules, regulations, and park related advisories (fire bans, drinking water, wildlife concerns, aquatic invasive species, weather, etc.), handle phone inquiries, and general office and light cleaning duties. Candidate must possess a current valid driver's license. Candidate must be available to work evenings and weekends.

The position utilizes the point-of-sale system to conduct transactions, including cash, cheque and card, produces daily financial session reports, balances and creates deposits and maintain floats with appropriate change. Responsible for deposit transportation within park and if requested to financial institutions on behalf of park.

Position works independently handling complex customer service concerns, by listening to clearly identify the problem and making decisions on how to accurately respond by referencing established procedures. Response may require coordination of multiple park resources i.e. maintenance, enforcement, park interpreters, or park management. The situation may have both a short-term response with a commitment for longer term response required by supervisor.

The position utilizes the park reservation system to run reports, and plans work independently to ensure that patrons are contacted with appropriate information prior to their arrival. Reports are also utilized to identify potential park issues such as; quick turn over of sites, potential traffic concerns, maintenance issues. If issues are identified the appropriate park resources are contacted, (ie) maintenance, enforcement, supervisor. Responsible for confidential and accurate inputting of customer information.

Follows up on guest concerns and verifies integrity of online reservation system. If data problems are identified the employee will gather information to ensure that system is updated to reflect accuracy of information, i.e. campsite dimensions, pictures, etc.

Operate minor equipment to conduct campground inspections to assist in monitoring park entry compliance (license plate scanning, verifying passes, etc.) i.e. passenger vehicle, golf cart, UTV, e-bike, etc. Work with enforcement or other departments if issues are identified and require further investigation

Maintains entry gate, office and adjacent grounds i.e. clean washroom, windows, floors, dusting, water flowers, picks up garbage)
