The location in Ashdown, (Arkansas, United States), is seeking talent to fill the position of Maintenance Superintendent. This job is full-time permanent.

Position Overview We are seeking an experienced and results-driven Maintenance Superintendent to provide leadership and direction to maintenance leaders, supervisors, and crews. This role is responsible for ensuring productivity, safety, quality, reliability, and rapid problem solving in both planned and unplanned situations — all in a cost-effective, customer-focused environment. The Maintenance Superintendent will model and teach continuous improvement and lean manufacturing principles to help move the organization toward long-term operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Champion a safety-first culture, ensuring all employees follow established practices, policies, and procedures.
  • Provide proactive leadership to strengthen and sustain a culture of safety excellence.
  • Support environmentally responsible and sustainable manufacturing practices.
  • Manage the performance of all direct and indirect reports (supervisors, planners, engineers, etc.) to improve reliability in assigned areas.
  • Lead the integration of reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) practices and predictive tools such as vibration analysis, thermography, lube analysis, ultrasonic analysis, and failure analysis.
  • Oversee planning, scheduling, and execution of maintenance work — including outages and down days — to ensure alignment with budgets and schedules.
  • Direct efforts to diagnose and repair breakdowns quickly and effectively, maximizing equipment and process availability.
  • Monitor and track downtime data to eliminate repeat failures through root cause problem elimination (RCPE).
  • Identify opportunities to improve reliability and reduce costs proactively.
  • Ensure adherence to preventive and predictive maintenance schedules, supporting a culture of predictability.
  • Develop and manage the area maintenance budget, driving year-over-year cost improvements.
  • Set clear performance expectations, provide constructive feedback, and support the development of direct reports.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with union leadership to sustain business operations and results, ensuring compliance with labor agreements, regulations, and company policies.
  • Manage and report on maintenance KPIs, driving accountability and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in an industrial environment; pulp and paper mill experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong commitment to safety and compliance.
  • Proficient computer skills and familiarity with maintenance/reliability systems.

  • Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills.
  • Self-starter with a drive for continuous improvement and high-quality results.
  • Ability to advise, recommend, delegate, and supervise effectively.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work across functions and with union partners.
