Cross Dock Operations Manager (Western Canada)
About the role
Job Title: Cross Dock Operations Manager (Western Canada)
Department: Operations
Reports to: Director, Operations
Location: On-Site Calgary Office
The Reality of this Role
At Logistics Alliance, this is a desk-based coordination role with real operational weight behind it. You're not moving freight, you're the person making sure it moves correctly. As our Cross Dock Operations Manager for Western Canada, you own the outcomes across our BC, Calgary, Edmonton, and Winnipeg locations through systems, relationships, and sharp attention to detail. That means staying on top of carrier performance, resolving OS&D, keeping TMS records clean, and making sure the Director of Operations never has to wonder what's happening in the Western network. You're the connective tissue between dock partners on the ground and leadership above and the quality of that connection is entirely up to you.
What your day actually looks like
-
Morning: You're reviewing overnight linehaul arrivals, checking delivery readiness across your network, and catching scheduling gaps before they turn into missed pickups.
-
Mid-morning: You're in our TMS, auditing load accuracy, clearing outdated records, and making sure BOL and PO data is clean at every stage.
-
Afternoon: You're coordinating an OS&D resolution, working with carriers, vendors, and dock partners remotely to get freight relabeled, rebooked, or dispositioned, and updating the shared drive so nothing falls through the cracks.
-
Late afternoon: You're sending the Director a clear, proactive update on anything that surfaced that day - not because you were asked, but because that's how you operate.
You'll thrive here if…
-
You own it, full stop: You don't wait for direction when something needs to get done. You see a gap, you close it, and you loop in the right people without being chased.
-
Detail is your superpower: Whether it's freight tracking, system accuracy, or documentation, you know that small errors compound fast in a cross dock environment — and you don't let them.
-
You communicate up, not down: You keep the Director informed before they have to ask. Your updates are clear, timely, and make decisions easier — not harder.
-
You're calm when it's loud: Freight operations don't follow a script. You're the person who resolves issues quickly, keeps partners on side, and never lets urgency become chaos.
-
You represent LA with pride: Across Western Canada, you are the voice of our standards. Dock partners, carriers, and vendors know that when you're involved, it's done right.
What you should know…
This is a high-accountability individual contributor role. Your world is your inbox, your TMS, your trackers, and your relationships and keeping all of them in order simultaneously is what makes someone great at this job. You'll have real autonomy to manage Western dock operations the way you see fit, but the outcomes - clean data, resolved freight, reliable partners, zero surprises for the Director are yours to own. If you're energized by the satisfaction of running a tight operation remotely, this role delivers that every single day.
What you bring
-
5+ years of experience in dock, warehouse, or freight operations ideally across multiple sites
-
Background in transportation, 3PL, or 4PL environments strongly preferred
-
Solid working knowledge of OS&D, freight handling, and shipping processes
-
Proficient with TMS/WMS systems with strong attention to detail
-
Valid driver's license; comfortable with occasional travel
How you'll know you're winning
- OS&D freight is accurately tracked, coordinated, and resolved on schedule — no loose ends
- Shipments, returns, and documentation are on time and error-free, consistently
- Your trackers and system records are clean enough that anyone can pick them up and run
- Issues get escalated fast, with clear context, and resolved without the Director having to follow up
- Dock partners and carriers trust you — and that trust shows up in how smoothly the network runs
