Position
Senior Mine Engineer - Underground, Nunavut
Location and Reporting Structure
Reporting to the Chief Mine Engineer, this position will be a fly in- fly out 3x3 rotation based in Nunavut, Canada.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and update rolling 36-month and 3-month mine design schedules; issue a monthly 3-month forecast;
- Develop master schedules for underground, open pit, and construction projects;
- Approve level designs, drill-and-blast plans, and mining instructions;
- Establish planning, scheduling, and reporting systems to track and communicate performance against plans;
- Manage scheduling systems for all activities to effectively execute the Underground Project;
- Identify potential schedule risks and implement control measures to mitigate delays in the project timeline;
- Seek opportunities to accelerate work and improve schedule efficiency within areas of control;
- Prepare and distribute weekly and monthly reports on project status to relevant stakeholders;
- Follow the Nunavut Mine Health and Safety Regulations and the company’s policies an procedures, support and contribute to an active culture of safety within the department; and
- Conduct surveys and studies of ore deposits, ore reserve calculations and mine design. Plan, coordinate and conduct theoretical and experimental studies in mining exploration, mine evaluation and feasibility studies relative to the mine development.
Desired Competencies and Requirements
- Five (5) years of experience underground mining experience in metals mining, including two (2) years of experience in overseeing the work of Engineers in Training (EIT) and engineering technologist level staff.
- Bachelor's degree in geological/mine engineering (B.Eng);
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation and membership in the Nunavut Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientist or ability to obtain same. Professional registration is mandatory; and
- Demonstrated proficiency in underground drill and blast planning, design and scheduling of underground development and stoping and knowledge of underground surveying and ventilation. A practical understanding of underground mining operations including longhole open stoping and cemented rockfill backfilling methods is an asset.
Compensation and Benefits
For informational purposes, the annual salary for this role is $180,000.00
