About the role

Your Opportunity:

Working at QEII /Mackenzie Place the HCA has an exciting opportunity to provide care for clients who are medically stable and could be transitioning from the hospital to home, or from one care setting to another. Reporting to the Care Manager, the HCA will assist clients with personal health care needs to promote and maintain their ADLs at Mackenzie Place. The incumbent will help support a diverse clientele which may include transitions from hospital to home, or from one care setting to another. The HCA is expected to work with the health care team using a team focused approach in managing workloads while adhering to the client care plan. The HCA will work collaboratively with the health care team to promote and maintain a holistic approach in client care. In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Remote Retention Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $3,000. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay.

Description:

As a Health Care Aide (HCA), you will work as a collaborative member of the multidisciplinary team, providing personal assistance by supporting activities of daily living and delivering support services to patients (clients, residents) who require short term assistance or ongoing support, in accordance with the patient care plan and facility policies and procedures. In this role, you will work closely with patients, families, and caregivers across the continuum of care in home, community, and health care facilities. You will assist nurses with the provision of routine care to meet patients' hygiene, nutrition, mobility, recreation, and safety needs; assist with organized activities or programs; and observe and report on patients' mood, health, and wellbeing. Working under the supervision of a regulated health professional, you will assist in maintaining a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors, while supporting effective communication with patients and health care professionals. PLEASE NOTE: Until a new hire provides proof of HCA certification, they will be paid at the uncertified pay grade in accordance with the AUPE AUX Collective Agreement.

Required Qualifications:

Active or eligible for registration or practice permit with the College of LPNs and HCAs of Alberta (CLHA) as a Health Care Aide, along with proof of education or completion of Health Care Aide Certificate within 18 months of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in Seniors' Health is an asset. Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Training (NVCI). Foot care course/experience. Current BLS (CPR) registration. Supportive Pathways training or Supportive Dementia course, Medication Assistance Program (MAP)
