About the Job
Are you passionate about road construction and want to be part of a dynamic, results-driven team? We’re looking for a Construction Estimator who thrives in a fast-paced environment to support the successful delivery of municipal and private sector infrastructure projects.
Reporting to the Manager of Estimating, you’ll be responsible for interpreting tender documents, analyzing market conditions, producing accurate take-offs, and managing awarded projects from estimation to invoice.
Salary range of $75,000 to $85,000 based on experience.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Review and interpret tender documents to prepare detailed quotations.
- Conduct site visits and collaborate with project teams to scope work and confirm timelines.
- Make data-driven recommendations on markups and bid strategies.
- Manage the progress of awarded contracts to ensure compliance with project specifications.
- Track project costs, prepare client invoices, and review subcontractor invoices.
- Analyze completed jobs to identify variances between estimated and actual costs.
- Procure materials and coordinate delivery to job sites.
- Ensure all legal, safety, and municipal documentation (e.g., traffic control plans, insurance, bonds) is in place.
- Solicit and evaluate subcontractor quotes for inclusion in bids.
- Prepare and submit pricing for extra work as needed.
Here’s What You Need
- High school diploma (or equivalent) plus a 3-year Civil Engineering Technology (CET) diploma.
- WHMIS Certification.
- Valid Ontario G-Class Driver’s Licence (in good standing).
- 5-7 years of hands-on estimating and project coordination experience in the construction or road-building sector.
- Strong numerical and estimating skills with a keen eye for detail.
- Comfortable reading blueprints, technical drawings, and project specs.
- Proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); estimating software knowledge is an asset.
- Solid multitasking and time-management abilities — able to manage multiple jobs simultaneously.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to produce clear, professional documentation.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and make sound decisions.
- Professionalism, tact, and discretion when engaging with colleagues, clients, and subcontractors.
