The Opportunity
Aviva is currently looking for a Risk Consultant to join the Aviva Risk Management Solutions team servicing our Global Corporate Specialty division.
As a Risk Prevention Consultant your role involves conducting risk prevention visits and writing technical reports while acting as an on-site advisor. This is a home-based and flexible position, with regular travel throughout Quebec and occasional national travel.
This role is home-based, including a company car and a balance of account and field engineering with overnight travel of 30 to 50%.
What You’ll Do
- Conduct risk prevention visits to analyze property, product liability, and construction contractor risks.
- Prepare risk management and underwriting reports.
- Provide technical advice to underwriter and help address gaps in property risk management.
- Maintain risk management services in line with ARMS standards (quality, timelines, profitability).
- Collaborate with leadership, colleagues, and partners to enhance insurance services.
What You’ll Bring
- College or university degree in engineering, prevention, or risk management.
- 5+ years experience with property loss control of complex and HPR risks.
- Ability to read and assess sprinkler plans, fire pumps, suppression systems, and hydraulic tests.
- Ability to interpret architectural, structural, mechanical, and electrical plans.
- Understanding of North American building/fire codes, NFPA standards and industry recognized standards (Factory Mutual or GE Gaps Guidelines).
- High degree of understanding of complex Loss Scenario Engineering (MFL/PML/NLE).
- Proficiency in MS Suite.
- Strong technical writing skills.
- Strong ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Valid driver’s license and passport (or ability to obtain).
- Availability for frequent travel (80% in Ontario, 20% across Canada).

- In progress or holder of a professional designation in risk management (TPI, TAPI, CET, NICET, CFPS, CRM, CIP).
