Job Description:
Position Purpose summary:
The Community Worker is responsible for participating in and supporting the programs of The Salvation Army Georgina Community Church that help to connect members of the wider community with services that meet human needs. Within the context of The Salvation Army, they will work cooperatively with the corps officers, church staff, and volunteers in all aspects of the summer programs and events.
ACCOUNTABILITES:
- Assist with planning and/or implementing a parents & kids play cafe weekly drop-in, weekly youth drop-in, and Brave Circles girls follow-up event.
- Support and implement a one (1) week summer VBS (Vacation Bible School) with a team of volunteers.
- Advertise local Salvation Army events in the Georgina communities using flyers (Summer concerts, VBS, etc.), distributing popsicles/freezies in the park to connect with community members, supporting the Georgina Chess Academy summer drop-in event.
- Participate in weekly community lunch at the Link, attending local community events.
- Assemble and deliver care packages for seniors.
- Collect donations of backpacks for a back-to-school backpack program.
- Create content for social media channels and audio-visual duties for presentations.
- Assist with ensuring the emotional wellness and personal development of participants.
- Refer clients to Corps Officer for pastoral assistance.
- Perform other relevant duties as assigned, i.e., set-up and clean-up of events.
H****ealth and Safety
- Adherence to all health and safety standards.
- Assist with ensuring that the work area is maintained in organization, appearance, maintenance, cleanliness, etc.
- Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
Perform other related duties as required.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- This is a temporary full-time position based on 35 hours per week.
- The Supervisor will set the hours of work and work schedule.
- Required to wear appropriate Salvation Army identification.
- This job requires reaching, bending, and stooping frequently, working in a standing position for long periods of time.
- Working environment includes both indoor and outdoor service areas in generally agreeable conditions. Some travel within Georgina is required.
- Ability to lift/move up to 29 lbs. (13.1542 kg) without assistance.
Normal hours of work: 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday and includes a ½-hour unpaid meal break. Some flexibility in scheduling is required and there may be occasional work required during evenings and/or weekends. The hours of work and work schedule will be set by the supervisor as per operational requirements.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- Submit as required a Police Record Check that is acceptable to The Salvation Army in its sole discretion.
- This position is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs Program, and the following represents the applicant criteria:
- aged 15 to 30 years at the beginning of the employment period.
- be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment*; and,
- holds a valid Social Insurance Number; and,
- be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
- International students are not eligible participants. International students include anyone who is temporarily in Canada for studies and who is not a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada.
- Youth awaiting a refugee status ruling, as well as those who hold a visitor visa, youth visa or work visa are ineligible
- An ongoing condition of employment is the ability to maintain immigration status to legally remain and work in Canada which is supported by valid immigration documents.
Canada Summer Jobs Program requirements apply. Individuals who required employer-specific work authorization (e.g., international students on study permits) are not eligible under this program. Recent immigrants are eligible if they are Canadian Citizens or permanent residents.
This position is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs program. Applicants must meet program eligibility requirements, including age and legal status criteria.

Education, Qualifications and Certifications:
- Completion of a minimum of grade ten (10).
- Current, valid Safe Food Handling and First Aid/CPR Certifications or willingness to obtain.
Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements:
- Minimum of three (3) months of prior related experience working and/or volunteering in community-based programs.
- Good computer skills and experience using Microsoft Office.

- Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
Compensation:
The target hiring range for this position is $17.60 to $19.85 with a maximum of $23.82.
Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
