Job Description
Position: Journeyman Welder / CWB Supervisor
Location: Edmonton
Kristian Electric is looking for a Journeyman Welder to join our Edmonton branch. As a Journeyman Welder you will handle in house fabrication of overhead cranes and hoists. This role is open to experienced Journeyman Welders with overhead crane experience as an asset. The successful candidate will be:
- Reliable and organized with supporting and working with project deadlines and customer requests
- An exceptional customer relationship builder
- Able to work in a fast-paced environment
- Demonstrate excellent decision making for all safety related matters
Role Summary:
A Journeyman Welder working in our Crane manufacturing fabrication shop
Key Responsibilities:
- Welding, Fitting, Cutting and assembly of Overhead Cranes
- Following blueprints diligently
- Fit runways, columns, and overhead cranes accurately to Canadian standards and supplied engineered drawings
- Proficient in working with alignment devices
- Helping with projects and special jobs if needed
Core Competencies:
- Journeyman welder
- Skilled fabricator
- Mechanically inclined - advanced knowledge of welding equipment, construction materials, and fabrication techniques
- MCAW, FCAW, SMAW – all positions
- Rigging/overhead crane experience
- Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings and to detail out materials for order from the same
- Ability to read and interpret Engineered Drawings and common welding symbols
- Qualified CWB weld inspector would be a strong advantage
- Excellent team leader who is capable of both inspiring and controlling his crew
- Capable of planning work and estimating timeframe for work
- Capable of working to deadlines whilst ensuring quality of work is upheld
- A safety driven individual who will ensure best practice is followed at all times
- Reliable, organized, and attentive to details when working on fabrication projects
- Ability to function as part of a team and to request and accept direction as needed
- Positive attitude towards learning, motivating, teamwork, and customer relations
- Clear communicator both written and verbally
- Must have valid driver’s license and current driver’s abstract
Educational Requirements:
- Certified Journeyman Welder
- CWB (Canadian Welding Bureau)
- FCAW/MCAW – Flat and Horizontal
- SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding) –All positions
- High School diploma or GED equivalent
- The successful candidate will be required to obtain a CWB Welder Supervisor qualification in time
Experience and Skills Required:
- Minimum 2-3 years as a Journeyman Welder
- Experience operating forklifts with valid forklift certification
- Experience operating overhead cranes are considered an asset
- Experience with handheld plasma cutting
Working Conditions:
- Shop environment
- Requires steel toed footwear
- Eye protection is provided
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lb
