Grademan- Junior Machine Operator

We are looking for a Grademan - Junior Machine Operator who is responsible for ensuring that grading and earth-moving tasks are completed efficiently and accurately while assisting in the operation and maintenance of construction machinery. This position requires a foundational understanding of machinery operation and an ability to work collaboratively within a construction team.
Responsibilities
- Assist in preparing job sites, including layout of grades and markers for excavation and grading operations
- Use surveying equipment to determine elevations and layouts
- Operate basic grading equipment such as skid steers and compactors
- Monitor and adjust grading equipment to ensure compliance with project specifications
- Load and unload materials, ensuring proper positioning for grading tasks
- Aid in the installation of erosion control measures during grading
- Support the operation of construction machinery, including excavators, bulldozers, and graders
- Clear construction sites or move materials using equipment or vehicles
- Conduct mass excavation and detailed excavating, including trenching for pipe installation
- Complete daily equipment checks and maintain inspection logs
- Perform pre-operation inspections to ensure machinery is safe and functional
- Adhere to safety protocols while operating machinery to prevent accidents
- Assist with routine maintenance and minor repairs of construction equipment
- Keep machinery and work areas clean to promote a safe and efficient environment
- Communicate any equipment performance issues or job site condition concerns to the site superintendent
- Be adaptable and willing to perform additional tasks, including manual labor, to support the construction project as needed
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional certifications in heavy equipment operation or construction preferred
- 1 to 5 years of experience as a Grademan or in a similar role within the construction industry
- Experience with GPS Grade Systems (Topcon, Rotating Lasers, Builder Levels, etc.)
- Strong willingness to learn and develop skills in machine operation and grading techniques
- Strong knowledge of grading principles, practices, and applicable regulations
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications
- Must be comfortable in industrial/civil settings
- A valid driver’s license is required; a commercial driver’s license (CDL) is a plus
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
