MAKING AN IMPACT

As a senior member of the driven and passionate Strategic Communications team, the Senior Manager reports to the Director, Strategic Communications and will develop and implement communications strategies and plans that drive revenue, elevate our mission, and protect and enhance CCS’s reputation with internal and external audiences. An experienced leader and communicator, you excel at providing strategic communications counsel to internal business partners and driving forward multi-channel communications plans to achieve shared goals and deliver results. The Senior Manager has experience in issues and crisis management and a comprehensive understanding of internal and corporate communications, executive or leadership communications, and video production. The Senior Manager is also adept at communicating via earned, digital and social media.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING**:**

  • Working closely with the Director of Strategic Communications and the rest of the team, lead the development, execution and evaluation of strategic communications initiatives, including issues and crisis management, corporate communications, change management, executive communications, internal communications and media relations on key topics.
  • Lead internal communications strategies with a focus on maintaining and growing employee engagement, including providing oversight for CCS’s employee intranet, bi-weekly employee newsletter, nationwide town halls and other internal channels.
  • Lead internal communications strategies with a focus on maintaining and growing employee engagement in partnership with HR
  • Provide oversight and strategic leadership for CCS’s employee intranet, biweekly employee newsletter, quarterly nationwide Town Halls and other internal channels
  • Lead internal communications team to develop clear, compelling and on-brand internal communications content, and facilitate reviews and approvals with executives as required
  • Serve as a trusted advisor and collaborator for other departments and program areas, bringing communications expertise and input to their internal communications needs
  • Produce internal communications video content, with focus on CEO videos, as needed and in collaboration with video content development team when appropriate
  • Monitor external and internal environments and develop proactive action plans to respond to issues/events that could impact or enhance CCS’s reputation
  • Manage issues and crisis communications, working in partnership with teams across CCS to protect reputation and reduce organizational risk
  • Lead CEO positioning plan and thought leadership strategy, including speech writing, video production, social media content development and more
  • Oversee and provide support in drafting reactive responses for donor and client inquiries for Donor Care and Cancer Information Helpline teams
  • Oversee team’s quarterly KPI reporting and provide evaluation and recommendations to improve internal and external communications to meet quality standards, ensure progress towards targets and support the organization’s positioning, reputation and brand
  • Support the growth and development of direct reports as well as indirect reports
  • Create opportunities for team to expand skillsets, as appropriate
  • Foster a high-performance culture that leverages the unique talents and strengths of each member while encouraging their growth and development.
  • Champion CCS as a hero in the face of cancer.
  • Contribute to our culture of diversity, inclusion, belonging and equity (DIBE) by ensuring that all staff feel represented, valued, and heard across all aspects of their identity, including gender, age, religion, ethnicity, nationality, race, and sexuality.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 5+ years of progressive experience in a high-pressure, fast-paced, complex communications environment in a nationwide organization within the not-for-profit sector, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism or related field
  • Results-driven communicator, with proven experience in developing and implementing strategic internal and external communications plans
  • Solution-oriented with a strong ability to build and sustain productive relationships with colleagues, media and external stakeholders or partners
  • Experience and confidence working with and providing communications counsel to executive leadership
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills, including ability to distill and convey information in a clear manner
  • Video production experience, specifically managing video content needs and production timelines and requirements. Shooting and editing experience is an asset.
  • Strong organizational, time management, project management, problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to work at both a strategic and operational level
  • Understanding of event production and management, both in-person and virtually
  • Experience in the healthcare sector or with a health charity is an asset
  • English is required, French/Bilingualism (French /English) is an asset due to the organization’s nationwide operations.
