Job Description:

Position Purpose summary:

The Resident Team Supervisor assists the Resident Services Director in the oversight and supervision of the Residential Worker Team. The Resident Team Supervisor monitors, trains, assists with hiring and supports / monitors the job performance of the Residential Workers as they support residents and other staff members.

Accountabilities:

Waterston Centre / Shelter Program:

  • The Resident Team Supervisor supervises the day-to-day operations of the Residential Worker team, including staff scheduling

  • Ensures implementation and oversight of policies and procedures and ensures they are understood and adhered to by employees

  • Maintains and promotes a positive public image of the Salvation Army Waterston Ministries by providing a high caliber of services and by dealing with the public and professional contacts in a courteous and professional manner

  • Is part of the after-hours on-call rotation, particularly as it relates to staff scheduling issues

  • Leads monthly Team Meetings for various shifts

  • Ensures regular HIFIS (Homeless Individual and Families Information System) reporting is accurate and shared with Management Team

  • Participates in all Waterston Ministries Leadership Team meetings and Caseworker meetings

  • Participates in community and Salvation Army forums as requested by Resident Services Director

  • Assists with case management for residents of Waterston Centre

  • Assists with intake and discharge processes for residents as required

  • Builds and maintains a therapeutic milieu with residents and team members

  • Ensures the physical, psychological and spiritual needs are being met through referrals to caseworkers, chaplains, etc.

  • Completes reports and maintains records of resident activity

  • Provides statistical and evaluative information to management and funders

  • Supports the efforts of the team to help meet the residents spiritual needs and cultural practices

Human Resources:

  • Oversight of the mentoring of Residential Worker team.
  • Engages in regular supervision with the Resident Services Director
  • Ensures implementation and oversight of policies and procedures and ensures they are understood and adhered to by employees
  • Provides supervision to team monitoring security evening, nights and weekends.
  • May participate in hiring, orientating, training, coaching, evaluating, and scheduling of staff in accordance with contracts and residential standards
  • Assists with staff time sheets and ensures they are submitted for payroll purposes
  • Monitors and assist with staff safety practices in compliance with health and safety standards and prepares, submits, and acts on incident reports; identifies proactive safety measures to the Director of Resident Services based on needs and concerns
  • Assumes the role of a front-line Residential Worker when assistance is required
  • Is responsible for own professional self-development

Administration, Documentation & Reporting:

  • Assists with statistical reports (including SAMIS and HIFIS) and other documents for Administration
  • Ensures accuracy and comprehensiveness of HIFIS resident files, including accuracy, data integrity, confidentiality, and records of belongings of discharged residents,
  • Provides back up support for reception (answers phones, doors, etc. as needed)
  • Records unusual or out of character behaviours noticed in daily logbooks and reports them to the Residential Services Director and appropriate partners
  • Maintains logs for incident reports, forwarding them to the Resident Services Director and Executive Director.
  • Oversees and monitors intake process at Residential Worker Desk to ensure efficiency, comprehensiveness and accuracy

MANAGERIAL/Technical Leadership RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Reports directly to: Resident Services Director.
  • Direct reports for this position: up to 16 Residential Workers
  • Provides coaching and mentoring of up to 16 full, part-time, and casual staff utilizing the Performance Enhancement and Coaching Model (PEAC)

FINANCIAL AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT:

May have access to personal and confidential information

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Work setting is a multi-faceted residential setting, including emergency shelter, transition and supportive housing
  • Be willing to work extra time occasionally when required to support staffing requirements within the Ministry Unit
  • Ability and willingness to work flexible hours per the needs and requirements of the position
  • The incumbent will/may work under the following disagreeable conditions:
    • Work-related stress
    • Dealing with angry and abusive people
    • Dealing with Crisis Situations
    • Little travel associated with this position
    • Ability to lift up to 20 pounds
    • Flexible work schedule to accommodate different types of programming and emergencies
    • May be on-call 24/7 for emergencies and staffing related issues

education and experience Qualifications:

Education, Qualifications and Certifications:

  • Completed a formal post-secondary/college program in social work or equivalent education is a minimum requirement.
  • Current Driver’s licence and driving abstract
  • CPR First Aid (C)
  • ASIST

Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements

  • Minimum of three to five (3-5) years of prior related experience in a residential setting working with marginalized clientele.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of prior related experience in supervision, leadership, coaching, and motivating staff in a residential setting.
  • Experience working with youth/women’s programs is preferred
  • Demonstrated understanding of the Behavior Based Model
  • Experience in a case management system

  • Understands the dynamics of resident’s behaviour with the ability to assess their needs and risks
  • Ability to demonstrate understanding of and empathy toward cultural differences
  • Has skill in understanding the use of authority in supervision and effective intervention in crisis situations.

Compensation:

The target hiring range for this position is $49,643.22 to $62,054.03 with a maximum of $74,464.83.

Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
