Position Summary
Shah Trading is seeking a Quality Assurance Technician to support food safety, product quality, sanitation verification, and production-line compliance at our Montreal facility. The successful candidate will perform inspections, testing, sampling, documentation, and follow-up activities while working closely with Production, Sanitation, Warehouse, Receiving, and Shipping teams.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conduct daily Pre-Operational, GMP, sanitation, facility, and production-line inspections.
- Monitor production and packaging lines at scheduled intervals; verify CCPs, product identity, weights, seals, coding, packaging integrity, and compliance with approved specifications.
- Verify labels before start-up and during production, including product name, ingredients, allergens, bilingual information, Nutrition Facts Table (NFT), lot code, best-before date, and net quantity.
- Verify raw materials, packaging materials, supplier lots, allergen status, and product identification before and during production.
- Inspect incoming and outgoing products, pallets, trailers, and shipping areas for cleanliness, damage, odour, pest evidence, product identification, and traceability.
- Monitor pest and infestation risks, including rice weevils, Indian meal moths, rodents, damaged bags, webbing, spills, and other signs of activity; report findings and follow up corrective actions.
- Work closely with Production and Sanitation teams during cleaning, start-up, and changeovers; perform ATP and allergen swab testing and verify re-cleaning when results do not meet requirements.
- Verify allergen storage controls, including identification, segregation, covered storage, designated locations, spill control, and prevention of cross-contact.
- Collect, prepare, document, and submit raw material, in-process, environmental, and finished-product samples to accredited third-party laboratories for microbiological, chemical, allergen, or other required testing.
- Maintain retain samples and accurate retain-sample logs in accordance with company procedures.
- Prepare draft Certificates of Analysis (COAs), organize supplier quality documents, and support preparation or review of product specifications and Nutrition Facts Tables under QA Manager approval.
- Review production, batch, CCP, sanitation, line-check, traceability, and packaging records; identify missing information and obtain timely corrections.
- Support HOLD control, complaint investigations, root-cause analysis, corrective actions, GMP training, and internal or external audits.
Qualifications
- Diploma or degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Food Technology, Quality Assurance, or a related field is preferred.
- At least one year of experience as a QA/QC Technician, Food Safety Technician, Laboratory Technician, or similar role in food manufacturing.
- Valid HACCP certificate or recognized HACCP training is required.
- Knowledge of GMP, sanitation, allergen control, CCP monitoring, traceability, sampling, pest prevention, and food-manufacturing documentation.
- SQF training, certification, or experience in a GFSI-certified facility is preferred.
- Bilingual French and English is preferred Good English communication skills are required;
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel, with strong attention to detail and documentation skills.
Skills & Work Environment
- Able to communicate concerns clearly and work cooperatively with Production, Sanitation, Warehouse, Receiving, and Shipping teams.
- Organized, reliable, observant, and able to work independently in a fast-paced food-manufacturing environment.
- Comfortable working in production, packaging, warehouse, receiving, shipping, and sanitation areas while wearing required PPE.
- Able to stand and walk for extended periods and safely lift up to 25 lb (approximately 11 kg).
