Job Description:
In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of Island Health (Vancouver Island Health Authority), patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.
Under the direction of the Manager, Clinical Coordinator or designate and as a member of a multidisciplinary team, performs assessments, plans and provides personal care, and performs nursing procedures. Performs a variety of orthopaedic technician functions such as applying and removing casts and splints and setting up, monitoring, and adjusting traction equipment as directed by the physician. The Orthopaedic LPN operates in accordance with the competency guidelines and full scope of practice within the Standards of Practice as outlined by the BC College of Nurses and Midwives, and according to agency operating policies and standards and unit specific protocols.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, Training And Experience
Registration with BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing LPN registrant.
Completion of recognized training in Orthopaedic Technology plus two years of Orthopaedic technician experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Skills And Abilities

Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.

Ability to deal with others effectively.

Ability to organize work and implement a plan of care.

Knowledge and competencies to work at full scope of practice as currently required by the BC College of Nurses and Midwives, including administering medications.

Ability to operate related equipment.

Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
