THE ROLE
The Assistant Golf Superintendent reports directly to the Golf Course
Superintendent. He is responsible for the supervision and training of associates and the overseeing of the irrigation system infrastructure (piping) and fertilizer/pesticide/herbicide applications.
ACTIVITIES
The duties and responsibilities for the Assistant Greens Superintendent include, but are not limited to the following:
- Assists in the planning and supervising of the maintenance greens, tees and fairways; schedules work and supervises the employees and the use of the equipment
- Instructs equipment operators on the operation and care of mowing and other equipment; supervises pesticide applications and/or operates and calibrates pesticide application equipment; supervises and participates in the operation and maintenance of pumps, and in the maintenance of irrigation and drainage systems
- Instructs staff in the proper washing and storage of equipment and tools upon completion of the day
- Ensures cleanliness of all shop areas on a regular basis
- Assists in personnel management and evaluation, employee safety, personnel discipline and may also modify the daily work schedule based on professional interpretation.
- Follow all the employment policies and procedures as laid out in the hotel and golf course Employment Handbooks.
Attend and actively participate in all department and relevant hotel meetings
COMPETENCIES WE ARE SEEKING
- Valid pesticide license or ability to obtain
- Previous leadership experience in Golf Turf required
- Experience and knowledge of irrigation systems required
- Diploma\Certification in Golf Turf or equivalent preferred
- Valid Drivers License required
- Computer literate in Microsoft Window applications an asset
- Strong interpersonal and problem solving abilities
- Highly responsible & reliable
- Ability to work well under pressure in a fast paced environment
- Ability to work cohesively with fellow colleagues as part of a team
