Student Conduct and Care, Student Success CUPE, Term, Full-time (March 2026 to March 2027)

The Student Care Coordinator provides coordinated, student-centred support to students experiencing distress, safety concerns, or involvement in non-academic misconduct, including situations involving interpersonal harm or sexualized violence. Reporting to the Manager, Student Conduct and Care, the position serves as a central point of intake, assessment, and coordination for students of concern, ensuring timely triage, appropriate referrals, and continuity of care within established institutional policies and procedures.
The role operates at the intersection of student wellbeing, behavioural expectations, and campus safety. The Student Care Coordinator works collaboratively with internal and external partners to assess risk, support students in navigating complex situations, and contribute to fair, consistent, and compassionate institutional responses. The position requires sound judgement, strong communication skills, and the ability to manage sensitive and high-risk situations while maintaining professional boundaries and procedural integrity.
Responsibilities
Duties include but are not limited to:
Student Care, Assessment, and Case Management
- Serving as a primary point of contact for students of concern, students in distress or crisis, and referrals related to non-academic misconduct;
- Conducting comprehensive assessments to identify wellbeing needs, behavioural concerns, and potential risks to self or others;
- Triaging student needs and coordinating timely referrals to appropriate internal and external supports (e.g., Counselling, Medical Clinic, Accessibility Services, Housing, community resources);
- Developing, documenting, and monitoring individualized support and safety plans in collaboration with students and relevant campus partners;
- Providing coordinated support and referrals for students affected by interpersonal harm, including sexualized violence, in alignment with institutional policies and specialized response protocols;
- Providing ongoing case management, follow-up, and monitoring to support student wellbeing, behavioural change, and engagement with services; and
- Recognizing signs of mental health decompensation or escalating risk and taking appropriate action in accordance with institutional protocols.
Non-Academic Misconduct Support and Coordination
- Supporting non-academic misconduct processes through intake, assessment, documentation, and case coordination;
- Supporting students involved in sexualized violence disclosures by coordinating referrals, safety planning, and communication with designated response and support teams, as appropriate;
- Assisting in determining the appropriate response pathway in alignment with institutional policies and procedures;
- Coordinating with relevant units (e.g., Security, Housing, Student Success, Response and Support Teams) to ensure safety and procedural fairness; and
- Maintaining accurate, timely, and confidential case records to support decision-making, reporting, and institutional accountability.
Risk Assessment, Safety, and Crisis Response
- Assessing and responding to complex and high-risk situations, including mental health crises, escalated conflict, and cases with potential for violence;
- Exercising judgement regarding de-escalation, safety planning, and when to involve emergency or specialized supports;
- Participating in interdisciplinary planning and information-sharing to reduce risk and promote coordinated care; and
- Supporting institutional duty of care while balancing student wellbeing, behavioural expectations, and safety considerations.
Collaboration and Interdepartmental Coordination
- Acting as a liaison among student services, academic units, and administrative departments to support integrated and consistent responses;
- Supporting and coordinating interdisciplinary teams (e.g., Student Support Teams) to share relevant information and coordinate support strategies; and
- Providing consultation to staff and faculty regarding student care processes, referral pathways, and appropriate response options.
Documentation, Administration, and Compliance
- Preparing and maintaining professional documentation, including case notes, summaries, reports, and correspondence;
- Tracking cases and trends to support early intervention, reporting, and continuous improvement; and
- Supporting operational and administrative functions related to the role, including data entry, system use, and coordination of meetings.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will possess the following:
- Undergraduate degree in a related field such as Social Work, Psychology, Education, Criminology;
- 3-5 years of relevant work experience in student support, case management, conduct processes, social services, health and wellness, or a related field involving complex human-centred work;
- Demonstrated experience assessing risk, supporting individuals in distress, and coordinating services across multiple stakeholders;
- Strong working knowledge of issues related to student mental health, wellbeing, behavioural expectations, and campus safety;
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and de-escalation skills, with the ability to engage effectively in emotionally charged situations;
- Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgement and maintain professional boundaries while working with sensitive and confidential information;
- Strong organizational and documentation skills, with the ability to manage multiple cases and competing priorities;
- Experience working within policy and procedural frameworks and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams;
- Relevant training in areas such as suicide intervention, mental health first aid, trauma-informed practice, risk assessment, or conflict management is an asset; and
- Proficiency in the use of email, word processing, spreadsheet, database and publishing software within the MS Office Suite.
Salary
This position has been classified at a Grade 11. The annual salary range for this position is $77,768.60 to $80,990.00 and the normal starting salary will be $77,768.60, pro-rated based on length of term.
