What You Will Do

  • Understand Echelon and CAA Insurance’s organizational needs and strategic environment to understand the role reinsurance plays in supporting execution of business strategy in alignment with our risk appetite and in compliance with regulatory requirements
  • Build collaborative and productive working relationships across the organization to establish, maintain, and continuously improve reinsurance risk transfer capabilities, promote risk awareness, and intelligent risk taking
  • Understand the business objectives and plans to consistently align risk transfer plans with the business strategy. Work with senior management to integrate reinsurance within the strategy development process
  • Manage the reinsurance program including project management oversight, annual renewal process, data gathering, purchase of new reinsurance treaties as needed
  • Work with our reinsurance broker to ensure adequate coverage is maintained within our risk appetite and limits
  • Develop and implement reinsurance strategies to support business growth and risk mitigation
  • Lead the placement of reinsurance programs and review reinsurance contract wording
  • Ensure that risk management requirements are implemented and monitored on a timely and comprehensive basis, ensuring compliance with regulatory guidelines relating to reinsurance and climate management (e.g., OSFI B-15)
  • Continuously improve the reinsurance related risk policies, procedures, methodologies, standards & tools in compliance with regulatory requirements. Ensure communication of these materials to the business to enable adoption
  • Coordinate with Actuarial, Finance, and the reinsurance broker to provide information and calculations to support the optimization of risk transfer while maintaining our capital risk appetite
  • Provide input into reinsurance scenario analysis as part of the internal capital target setting process (i.e., ORSA), financial conditions testing (FCT), regulatory climate related testing, probable maximum loss quantification, and any other ad hoc reinsurance related scenario analysis as needed
  • Generate materials for reinsurance reporting to the executive risk committees, the Risk Committee of the Board, and various presentations to reinsurers

The expected salary range for this position will be impacted by factors such as the successful candidate’s skills, experience and working location, as well as the specific position’s business line, scope and level. Who You Are

  • Bachelors or equivalent degree in Risk Management / Business / Finance / Data Analytics
  • Associate in Reinsurance (ARe) designation would be an asset
  • Industry accreditation in Risk Management or Insurance related field (CRM, CRMP, CIP) would be an asset
  • Minimum 7 years of Insurance and/or Financial Services Industry experience
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in leading and managing staff
  • Prior knowledge/experience in managing a risk financing program
  • Prior experience with insurance industry regulatory requirements (e.g., OSFI, FSRA, Alberta Treasury Board)
  • Experience in Insurance and/or Financial Services industry
  • Strong knowledge and previous experience with Governance, Risk and Compliance and Controls frameworks
