Purpose of your Position - Non Union
Classification Summary - Union
As a creative communicator, you will write and design communications content for various audiences and channels. Expertise with a variety of computer applications with an emphasis on web content management, social media platforms and design software is essential. Flexibility to balance priorities and multiple projects is critical. The Communications Department is looking to fill a 12-month term Communications Coordinator to support communication for various departments at the city of Kelowna.
The City of Kelowna is one of the most rapidly growing cities in Canada and our Communications Department is a dynamic team of employees who work together in a corporate service delivery model. You will work with others who have specialist strengths as well as varied past experiences delivering communications services.
A Communications Coordinator develops, promotes, publicizes and runs communications
programs for identified departmental initiatives.
Duties - Union

Plans, prepares and delivers communications, community educational programs, social marketing initiatives and presentations.

Develops and coordinates marketing and communications plans for various departmental initiatives.

Coordinates and implements special projects, based on City’s direction.

Prepares and coordinates media releases, advertising and newspaper promotions.

Utilizes computerized expertise to assist with desktop publishing, website maintenance, front page editor and graphic applications.

Participates in public consultations for program initiatives.

Researches, writes, and edits various communications materials, including speaking notes for the Mayor, reports, applications, advertisements and promotional materials.

Responds to public enquiries and complaints.

Fosters strong relationships and establish partnerships in the community.
