The Trailer Apprentice is responsible for the company’s performance in terms of efficient effective and timely repairs and maintenance on the Bison Transport tractor fleet. The Trailer Apprentice is expected to be a team player in the Maintenance Department. They must be able to follow direction from the licensed technician to diagnose and repair recurring problems and effectively communicate these to other members of the Maintenance Team. Good communication skills and a professional attitude are basic requirements.
Responsibilities:
- Involves working safely and performing preventative maintenance on all trailers in the Bison Transport fleet.
- Performing maintenance on trailers, this involves diagnosing problems that are found during these inspections and prescribing the correct remedial action.
- Performing repairs that are diagnosed during the pre/post trip or quick check inspection and preventative maintenance.
- Performing repairs in a timely, effective and efficient manner with the guidance of the licensed technician.
- Entering work orders
- Shop clean-up, attending team meetings and performing other miscellaneous repairs on Bison Transport equipment.
Qualifications:
- Registered Apprentice with the Provincial Training Board
- Passed the Apprenticeship entry exam
- Graduation from a recognized certificate program (ex. Truck and Transport Technician, Heavy Duty Technician), and the desire to obtain your Journeyman's certificate
- Must have basic computer skills
- Must have a valid class 5 drivers license,
- Must be self-motivated, and strong mechanical aptitude.
- Demonstrated diagnosing and time‐management abilities
- May stand and walk on level and uneven surfaces, twist, bend, push, pull, crouch, climb stairs, bend and crawl, grasp, drag, lift and carry items weighing 50 lbs or less
- Previous experience with all types and makes of tractors and trailers heavy-duty diesel trucks
- May work above shoulder level with power and /or hand tools weighing 15 pounds or less and in confined spaces
Shift Schedules availability:
- 4-10 hour shift, Monday to Thursday day shift schedule, hours of work are 6:00 – 16:30
- 4-10 hour shift, Monday to Thursday day shift schedule, hours of work are 16:00 - 02:30.
