About the role

Specific Job Description:

Provides a full range of legal support and advice as Lead Counsel Canada & Latin America for Lockheed Martin Corporation. Manages and directs legal support for all Canadian government programs and pursuits as well as commercial partnerships, ventures and opportunities. Directs coordinated legal support and management across the Corporation’s programs and pursuits in the Latin America region. Sets overall corporate strategy for providing a broad spectrum of legal support to the Corporation’s Canadian and Latin American business development professionals, supports transactions and manages risk to enable the enterprise to achieve its strategic objectives, and advise executive management (e.g., Global Business Development & Strategy and Country Executives) on all legal issues involved in doing business in Canada and Latin America.

This role will also provide counsel on contractual matters related to industrial development and benefits within the regions. Other duties as assigned.

Position reports to the Director and Chief International Transactions Counsel.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Represents the company in highly significant legal proceedings, customer negotiations, and contractual discussions in Canada and Latin America
  • Supports litigation and disputes as well as issues arising out of client, partner, and employment agreements
  • Primary legal contact for GBD&S executives responsible for Canadian and Latin American regional businesses
  • Attends and actively contributes to customer meetings and solutions as required
  • Ensures adherence to processes by employees for legal matters and projects
  • Ensures legal services provided to Programs are of the highest quality and satisfy all regulatory and technical requirements
  • Actively support the pursuit of new business by participating in proposal responses
  • Assists in the induction of new personnel as required
  • Complies with legislation and Company policies, processes and instructions, including those relating to non-discrimination, environment, safety, duty of care, and the quality management system
  • Provides leadership as a senior leaders in the regions and displays behaviors that reflect the Company values
  • Any other duties as required.

Required skills, qualifications and experience:

  • Juris Doctor (JD), Bachelor or Laws (L.L.B.) or equivalent from an accredited law school is required
  • Licensed to practice law in the Province of Ontario
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in Canadian federal government contracting
  • Ability to easily interface with and influence senior corporate and customer executives and to work with business area program counsel in a collaborative, team environment.

Desired skills, qualifications and experience:

  • Experience as an outside counsel, advising clients across diverse jurisdictions and legal frameworks
  • Experience negotiating international transactions with non-US based governments and industry in the Latin America region
  • Business acumen, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, reliability and sound judgment
  • Experience in Aerospace, Defence or Technology organizations
  • Thought leadership in contract law
  • Excellent writing and oral communications skills; ability to distill and articulate complex legal issues into succinct, cohesive summaries
  • Leadership experience.
