Job Summary Organize and deliver a comprehensive Skating program to meet the needs of all participants registered in the program and provide supervision and leadership to Skating Instructors and volunteers.

Please note: The Skating Lead position for Fall 2025 is at Carmen Corbasson Community Centre , with shifts on Tuesday evenings and Saturday mornings .

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Teach basic to advanced skills through group lessons as outlined in defined lesson levels. Group sizes vary from 3 to 12 participants.
  • Ensure the continuing safety of all participants during group lessons.
  • Organize, plan and implement the activities at the start and end of each program (warm up and cool downs).
  • Prepare weekly lesson plans including warmup and cool down sessions for group instruction
  • Plan fun day activities for final day of programs for all participants
  • Ensure program plans meet Course Objectives and HIGH FIVE Principles and Design Guidelines
  • Provide functional guidance and feedback for skating instructor evaluations
  • Review lesson plans on weekly basis/as requested to ensure staff are planning and executing appropriate instruction.
  • Place volunteers in groups and provide feedback
  • Provide quality customer service to parent and participants on an ongoing basis.
  • Post signs providing information to participants about upcoming activities or announcements.
  • Ensure visual safety check of ice is completed to ensure program can run safely, report any issues to facility staff
  • Ensure that all participants are properly registered.
  • Record attendance daily for each class.
  • Report payroll and volunteer hours
  • Order and distribute the appropriate number of progress cards
  • Complete a progress card and comment for each student in a testable program.
  • Send unclaimed progress cards to office for mailing
  • Ensure that equipment is safe and in good repair, where new equipment is required inform supervisor
  • Responsible for locking equipment up at the end of each program day

Skills And Qualifications

  • Skate Canada STAR 5 freeskate or equivalent is required
  • Emergency First Aid with CPR B
  • Principles of Healthy Child Development (PHCD) or HIGH FIVE Sport Certification
  • Experience instructing skating lessons with a recognized Skating Program
  • Previous supervisory experience
  • Primarily arena environment
  • A Level 3- Vulnerable Sector Check will be required before the start of your employment at the candidate's expense

Hourly Rate/Salary: 29.19 - 38.92

Grade: PH

Hours of Work: up to 24 hours per week
