Equipment Operator – Aggregate & Crushing Operations Location: Merritt, BC Job Type: Full-Time Schedule: 5-6 days per week / 10-12 hour shifts Reports To: Pit Foreman

About the Role:

Lower Nicola Site Services LP (LNSS) is a partnership owned 51% by the Lower Nicola Indian Band Development Corporation and 49% owned by Infracon Construction. LNSS's main objective is to provide our clients with the services, equipment, and ideas that help them come in on schedule and on- or under-budget for every single project, regardless of scope. We are seeking experienced heavy equipment operators with hands-on experience operating a variety of heavy equipment in a gravel pit, aggregate, crushing, or a civil construction environment. The ideal candidate will be reliable, safety-minded, mechanically aware, and comfortable working in a busy pit operation. Success in this role requires a commitment to safety, a strong work ethic, and a willingness to be a team player and adapt to shifting priorities as project needs evolve.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Safely and effectively operate heavy equipment such as: excavator, loader, crushing and screening equipment, other gravel pit and aggregate equipment as required.
  • Rock truck/ haul truck Perform grading, leveling, trenching, backfilling, and road building tasks as required by project scope.
  • Feed crushers and screeners by safely and efficiently operating loaders and other equipment to maintain consistent material flow.
  • Load trucks and stockpile material according to production requirements and site layout plans.
  • Strip, push, and manage pit material to support ongoing extraction, processing, and site development activities.
  • Perform daily equipment inspections and complete basic maintenance checks to ensure machinery remains in safe working condition.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area by following housekeeping standards and removing hazards as needed.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors and crew members to coordinate material movement, production needs, and equipment usage.
  • Follow all company safety policies and site procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and promote a safe work environment.
  • Assist with snow removal, dust suppression, and surface maintenance during seasonal operations.
  • Conduct daily pre-operational inspections and perform basic equipment care.
  • Maintain situational awareness while operating around workers, vehicles, and site infrastructure.
  • Support ground disturbance planning, spotters, and utility locates to ensure compliance and safety.
  • Communicate clearly with supervisors, spotters, and ground crews to maintain a safe work zone.
  • Work collaboratively with labourers, supervisors, and other operators to complete tasks efficiently and safely.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and a positive attitude in adapting to daily changes, site conditions, or assignments outside of regular operating tasks.
  • Support the overall success of the team through cooperation, initiative, and a willingness to assist wherever needed.
  • Follow all site-specific safety procedures, environmental regulations, and company policies.
  • Other responsibilities to support the success of company's project and exceed client delivery expectations.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bring a minimum of 5,000 hours of excavator operating experience, with proven ability to run the machine safely and efficiently in production environments.
  • Demonstrate strong proficiency operating loaders and dozers for feeding crushers, stockpiling, stripping, and general pit work.
  • Have hands-on experience with crushing and screening operations, including feeding plants, managing material flow, and supporting production targets.
  • Bring previous experience in gravel pits, aggregate production, mining, or civil construction, with a solid understanding of safe material handling and site operations.
  • Minimum requirement of a valid Class 5 Driver's Licence; Class 3 or Class 1 Licence is considered an asset.
  • Physically fit and capable of working 10-hour shifts in changing weather and site conditions.
  • Reliable, self-motivated, and team-oriented.
  • Willingness to assist with general site labour or non-operating tasks when required.
  • The candidate must be able to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating good judgment and strong communication skills in a fast‑paced production environment.
  • The candidate must have a strong understanding of safe equipment operation and consistently follow all company and regulatory safety procedures.
  • The candidate should be local to Merritt or the surrounding area to support reliable daily attendance and minimize travel‑related delays.

Preferred Assets:

  • The candidate should have strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to identify basic equipment issues during daily operation.
  • The candidate should have experience maintaining stockpiles and managing aggregate materials to support efficient production and site organization.
  • The candidate must hold a valid driver's licence in accordance with company and site access requirements.
  • The candidate must have reliable transportation to the worksite to ensure consistent and punctual attendance.
  • The candidate should demonstrate strong attendance and a solid work ethic in a fast‑paced, production‑driven environment.

  • Hourly Rates: $37.00 – $45.00 per hour depending on experience and qualifications.
