JOB DESCRIPTION
The Orillia Lifesaving Team (OLT) Lifesaving Sport Head Coach will follow City of Orillia policies and procedures in delivering safe and inclusive training sessions to the OLT participants. The Head Coach is responsible for the safety supervision and well-being of all OLT participants and OLT Lifesaving Sport Coaches.
DUTIES
- Coach and train athletes to participate in Lifesaving Society Sport programs and sanctioned competition.
- Supervise, coach and evaluate OLT Lifesaving Sport Coaches.
- Plan and anticipate strategies and activities designed to meet the needs of each participant.
- Help prepare students and coaches for competitions or evaluations.
- Create and effectively run practices and implement long term practice plans.
- Schedule and attend local meets and competitions.
- Complete and maintain accurate records of program statistics as required.
- Ensure coaches are following program plans and legislative requirements.
- Implement swimmer evaluation and development strategies.
- Ensure that knowledge, skills, and qualifications are kept up to date.
- Handle program feedback, respond to emails in a timely manner, provide exceptional customer service.
- Successfully build relationships with neighboring clubs and facility providers.
- Attend meetings/training as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Currently enrolled or completed post-secondary education.
- Current LSS National Lifeguard Pool and Waterfront (or willing to obtain).
- Standard First Aid with CPR –C (dated within 3 years).
- Lifesaving Sport Coach Level 1.
- Training experience or NCCP Coach certification in competitive swimming is an asset.
- Previous supervisory experience in a similar setting is an asset.
- A Criminal Record with Vulnerable Sector Check (CRC/VSC) is required for this position at the incumbent’s expense, prior to the employment commencement date.
- Extensive experience in guarding and instructing.
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Exceptional customer service and communication skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently, as well as part of a team.
- Experience with diving, lifesaving sport or water polo would be an asset
- Additional Lifesaving Society Trainer, Examiner and instructor awards are considered an asset.
- Experience using Active Net is considered an asset.
- Experience using Evolia is considered an asset.
Work hours vary up to 15 hours per week including Monday, Wednesday, and Friday evenings as well as Saturday mornings. In addition, competitions may be run during the day, evenings and weekends. The successful candidate will be required to obtain an acceptable and current Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check at their own expense prior to the employment commencement date.
