THE POSITION The Embedded Electronics Designer is a key member of a core development team focused on advancing electrification and illumination technologies. This team designs, develops, and launches innovative products ranging from Electric Vehicle Communication Controllers (EVCC) to illuminated signage and lithium battery charging systems. The role offers a highly creative, fast-paced environment with broad design ownership and significant opportunity for innovation. Responsibilities include supporting and enhancing existing customer platforms while designing and developing complementary products for EVCC systems. The ideal candidate is an experienced and forward-thinking designer with strong expertise in ARM-based systems running bare metal, FreeRTOS, and embedded Linux environments.
How You Will Be Making An Impact
- Define system-level requirements based on customer needs and industry best practices.
- Design schematics, PCB layouts, and component/assembly technical drawings.
- Develop and support system-level architecture and product design strategy.
- Plan and execute design verification and validation activities.
- Design and support test strategies, including production test processes.
- Collaborate with suppliers to support sourcing and resolve engineering issues.
- Partner with cross-functional engineering teams to deliver projects on time and within budget.
- Participate in vendor qualification and supplier assessment activities.
- Support smooth hand-off of designs to manufacturing and production teams.
- Drive new product development aligned with company strategy and technology roadmap.
- Conduct market and technical research to inform product and design decisions.
- Support project planning, scheduling, and development roadmaps.
- Contribute to customer quotations through effort estimation, scheduling, and budget development.
What Success Looks Like
- Deliver clear, complete system requirements, architecture, and technical documentation.
- Produce accurate, manufacturable schematics, PCB layouts, and design packages.
- Create costed, lifecycle-verified Bills of Materials that support reliable sourcing.
- Develop prototypes, build documentation, and repeatable test procedures that validate designs early.
- Execute verification, validation, and risk analysis (DVP/DVT, FMEA) to ensure product reliability.
- Qualify suppliers and evaluate components to maintain quality and supply continuity.
- Deliver complete manufacturing hand-off packages that enable scalable production.
- Provide accurate engineering estimates, quotation support, and disciplined task management.
- Build functional prototype hardware to prove concepts and reduce development risk.
- Achieve regulatory compliance through structured testing, analysis, and reporting.
- Maintain clear, controlled design revisions and traceable documentation.
What Skills And Experience You Require
- Degree or diploma in Electrical, Computer, or Electronics Engineering (or equivalent experience)
- Experience designing ARM-based embedded systems using FreeRTOS and embedded Linux
- Experience with ARM Cortex-M/R microcontrollers and Cortex-A microprocessors using DDR2/DDR3 memory
- Experience with LED lighting and battery charging circuitry
- Knowledge of vehicle system, environmental, and CAN Bus requirements
- Experience with board bring-up, low-level debugging, and hardware troubleshooting
- Experience defining and executing component and system-level test plans
- Understanding of FMEA, DFM, and design verification methodologies
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and organizational skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and perform under tight timelines
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate cross-functionally
- Self-directed work ethic with minimal supervision
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as required
