Reports To: Sustainability and Business Development Manager

Position Overview

AET Group is seeking a Senior Consultant, Greenhouse Gas (GHG) & Climate Strategy to join our growing Sustainability and Environmental Services team. This role is ideal for a seasoned professional who combines strong technical expertise with a collaborative, client-focused approach.

The Senior Consultant supports the Manager, Sustainability and Business Development, Managing Director, and Director of Environmental Services in delivering a wide range of sustainability consulting services, including:

  • Technical consulting on GHG inventories, quantification and verification, reduction planning, lifecycle assessments, and sustainability reporting.
  • Project coordination including scheduling, budgeting, team training, and ensuring high-quality, on-time deliverables.
  • Business development support such as proposal preparation, client relationship management, and strategic outreach to identify new opportunities.

This position offers the opportunity to contribute directly to the expansion of AET’s GHG and Sustainability services while developing project leadership and client relationship skills.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership & Delivery

  • Manage, lead, and deliver GHG and sustainability consulting services, including inventory development, reduction planning, verification, and strategic sustainability initiatives.
  • Lead AET’s Accredited Validation and Verification Program, ensuring alignment with evolving SCC standards.
  • Support sustainability reporting, including materiality assessments and climate-related scenario analysis.

Project Management & Coordination

  • Plan and oversee project activities, including kick-off meetings, internal coordination, and client correspondence.
  • Manage project timelines, assign resources, and track budgets and deliverables.
  • Ensure effective and consistent communication across all stakeholders throughout project delivery.
  • Oversee QA/QC processes, data analysis, reporting, and peer reviews.

Client Engagement & Reporting

  • Present findings and project outcomes to clients in a professional, results-focused manner.
  • Represent AET at conferences, industry events, and training sessions to enhance visibility and client engagement.

Business Development

  • Identify and evaluate RFP and RFQ opportunities for GHG and sustainability-related projects.
  • Lead the preparation and submission of proposals and quotations.
  • Attend networking events and client meetings to build strong, long-term relationships.
  • Conduct strategic outreach to potential clients and partners.

Financial & Administrative Oversight

  • Prepare project invoices and manage project cost accounting.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation and contribute to operational planning.

Team Leadership & Mentorship

  • Provide mentorship and technical guidance to team members.
  • Support staff development in GHG and sustainability services through coaching, knowledge sharing, and training initiatives.
  • Contribute to hiring decisions and candidate assessments.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies, Sciences, Engineering, or related field.
  • 7–10 years of experience leading GHG and sustainability-related projects.
  • Training in ISO 14064 standards with working knowledge of GHG Protocol, IPCC, and CDM methodologies.
  • Proven experience quantifying or verifying GHG emissions for organizational inventories and carbon offset projects.
  • Working knowledge of Canadian GHG regulatory programs (GHGRP, OBPS, TIER, EPS).
  • Familiarity with ESG reporting frameworks (GRI, SASB, TCFD).
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly advanced Excel.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong research, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Self-motivated, flexible, and able to manage multiple priorities independently.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Preferred:

  • Experience in environmental auditing, lifecycle assessments, and carbon offset project development.
  • Familiarity with ISO 14001 and 45001 management standards.
  • Experience in business development, including proposal writing and client outreach.
