About the role

The Department of Clinical Neurosciences in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Research Assistant. This Part-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 10 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.

This position reports to the Principal Investigator.

This position requires an individual to work well independently and within a team. The RA will work closely to the PI collecting data in patients with Parkinson;s disease. Knowledge of IRISS (University of Calgary ethics server), Microsoft Office, RedCAP database and some statistical software will be required. The RA will be able to do data collection, input data, some analysis of data, interpretation of data and then aid in writing grants, abstracts and manuscripts.

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Establishes and maintains effective, productive relationships with staff, peers, immediate supervisor and senior management and with the campus community
  • Collect data on patients with Parkinson's disease
  • Input data into appropriate databases
  • Under the supervision of the Principal Investigator, analyze and interpret data for grant writing, abstracts and manuscripts
  • Manages own time effectively and ensures immediate reports to manager is kept informed of activities, and progress of work
  • Generate various reports as required by Principal Investigator and research team. May require presentation of reports to various stakeholders
  • Compile tables, charts, graphs, and summarized statistics for integration in research papers and reports. This includes materials for presentation and publication

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree required, Master's Degree preferred
  • Knowledge and understanding of interview research methodology
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in data collection and management
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Advanced to advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint), Intermediate skills in statistical software programs
  • Demonstrated ability for professional report writing
  • Knowledge of research ethics and regulations for granting agencies (eg. Tri Council)
  • Demonstrated strong communication, team and customer service skills, and an ability to exercise judgment within established guidelines
  • Must be open to learning and development
  • Knowledge of the University of Calgary processes and procedures is desirable
