Our client is seeking a CPA-designated accounting leader to oversee the financial reporting and accounting operations for a portfolio of properties. This newly created position offers the opportunity to play a key role within a growing organization, leading a small team while partnering closely with finance leadership on reporting, process improvements, and strategic initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the accounting and financial reporting activities for an assigned portfolio, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with accounting standards and internal controls.
- Review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, budgets, forecasts, and supporting analyses.
- Oversee cash management activities, capital expenditures, distributions, and other funding requirements.
- Coordinate year-end audit activities, preparing and reviewing working papers while serving as a key contact for external auditors.
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, controls, and reporting efficiencies.
- Partner with internal stakeholders to provide financial guidance and communicate complex accounting matters to both finance and non-finance audiences.
- Manage budgeting and forecasting timelines to ensure deadlines are met.
- Coach, mentor, and develop a small team of accounting professionals.
Qualifications:
- CPA designation is required.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related discipline.
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including experience preparing and reviewing full financial statements.
- Previous experience leading or mentoring accounting staff.
- Strong technical accounting knowledge with experience supporting audits and year-end reporting.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and organizational skills.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
Preferred Experience:
- Real estate, property management, or REIT experience is an asset but not required.
- Candidates coming directly from public accounting with strong audit and financial reporting experience will also be considered.
- Experience with Yardi or similar ERP/accounting systems is considered an asset.
The successful candidate will be technically strong, proactive, and comfortable operating in an evolving environment. They will be someone who enjoys solving problems, can communicate effectively with both finance and operational teams, and is excited by the opportunity to build processes while leading a small team.
