You will:

  • Lead a multidisciplinary team of mineral sector analysts, promotion specialists, and a statistics analyst, ensuring coordinated delivery of high­-quality analysis, briefing products, and promotional activities.
  • Oversee the preparation of concise, accurate, and executive­-ready briefing materials for the Minister, Deputy Minister, and senior leaders, often under exceptionally tight timelines.
  • Direct planning and execution for major mining conferences by managing sponsorship requests, preparing speaking engagement recommendations, and ensuring strategic ministry participation.
  • Represent Ontario at select national and international mining events to strengthen investor relations and advance the province's profile within the global mining sector.
  • Maintain and steward comprehensive stakeholder and industry contact lists to support ministerial meetings, executive briefings, and outreach activities.
  • Provide cross­ ministry support by validating data, supplying sector insights, and reviewing analytical products to ensure accuracy, relevance, and alignment with ministry priorities.

Meet Your New Team

The Mining Policy and Sector Development Division (MPSDD) plays a pivotal role in strengthening the ministry's policy capacity and expanding its support across a broad range of areas, including mining and minerals sector investments, and geoscience initiatives to strengthen sector competitiveness and advance Ontario's economic prosperity. MPSDD serves as a key liaison - facilitating coordination and collaboration with other ministries, various levels of government, Indigenous communities, industry stakeholders, and the public. This ensures that policy initiatives are informed, inclusive, and aligned with broader provincial and national priorities.

The Mineral Sector Analysis and Promotions Unit provides information, data and tools on Ontario's geology and mineral sector and as well as the coordination of the division's promotional activities.

Meet the Hiring Director: Michael Loken (LinkedIn)

The successful candidate will be reporting to Michael Loken. Michael is a professional engineer with over 22 years of experience leading and engaging diverse teams in both operational and project settings. Prior to joining the OPS in May 2024, Michael worked for the City of Greater Sudbury as Acting Director of Water/Wastewater Treatment & Compliance and Project Director for Indigenous Relations, and Falconbridge Nickel Mines (now Glencore Canada) as Senior Metallurgical Engineer and Smelter Emergency Response Team Leader. Michael is known for developing employees and creating an environment based on transparency and inclusion.

Michael received his undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Ottawa in 2003 and his master's degree in Natural Resource Engineering from Laurentian University in 2013. Outside of work he is a proud father of two boys and an avid cyclist.
