Job Description Our Calgary client is seeking a Senior Power System Applications Engineer responsible for maintaining and evolving real-time energy management applications to ensure reliable operation.
Must Have skills
-
Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering- Power Systems, APEGA P.Eng
-
5–8 years’ experience with real-time reliability solutions (AGC, state estimation, contingency analysis)
-
Experience with GRID OS(e-terra) SCADA systems and application familiarity
-
Experience with some of the following Engineering programming/scripting:
-
Python
-
SQL
-
Shell / Bash
-
PowerShell
-
MATLAB
-
C / C++
-
Java
Nice to have skills
-
Integration experience between Market Management Systems and EMS, including:

GE Grid Solutions AEMS (e-terra)
-
SCADA integration
-
ICCP protocol
-
REST APIs
-
SQL-based database integration
-
Custom scripts (e.g., Python, Shell)
-
Market dispatch optimization tools
-
Forecast and scheduling systems
Responsibilities
- Maintain real-time EMS power system applications (AGC, state estimation, contingency analysis)
- Update EMS model to reflect changes in AIES topology
- Troubleshoot application issues during work hours
- Participate in strategic enhancements and process improvements for real-time tools
- Contribute to project planning, workload estimation, and scheduling
- Provide on-call remote EMS support, including coordination with technical teams as needed
