Come work with us!
At the City of Leduc, we’re not just maintaining infrastructure — we’re building a community that works for everyone. Our Utility Services team plays a vital role in providing safe, reliable water, wastewater, and stormwater systems that keep our city flowing smoothly. If you’re a dedicated professional who takes pride in doing meaningful work that impacts every household and business in our community, we want to hear from you.
What is the Opportunity?
We’re seeking a full-time, permanent Utility Services Operator II to join our Utility Services team. Reporting to the Lead, Utility Services, this position is responsible for the day-to-day operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of the City’s water distribution, wastewater collection, and stormwater systems.
You’ll take on a mix of hands-on technical work and leadership responsibilities — helping to train and guide fellow operators, ensure compliance with safety and environmental standards, and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement across our utility operations.
What will you do?
In this role, you will:
- Operate, maintain, and repair the City’s water distribution and wastewater collection systems, including mains, valves, hydrants, lift stations, and reservoirs.
- Perform water quality testing, analysis, and preventative maintenance to ensure compliance and reliability.
- Troubleshoot, investigate, and resolve issues with storm and sanitary laterals, wastewater mains, and related infrastructure.
- Assist in developing and maintaining standard and emergency operating procedures.
- Provide training, technical advice, and guidance to fellow Operators to promote safe, efficient, and high-quality operations.
- Contribute to health and safety practices, including the review and development of safe work procedures and completion of site inspections.
- Participate in the on-call rotation, responding to emergencies and supporting weekend or holiday checks on utility facilities when required.
Who you are?
You are a motivated and dependable operator with strong technical knowledge and a commitment to teamwork, safety, and service excellence. You take initiative, communicate clearly, and thrive in a role that balances field work with leadership responsibility.
Your qualifications include:
- Alberta Environment Level 2 certification in Water Distribution and Wastewater Collection (Level 1 candidates will be considered if willing to obtain Level 2 within a defined timeframe).
- High school diploma or equivalent (a related diploma or certificate from an accredited institution is an asset).
- 3–5 years of related experience or equivalent work history in utility operations.
- Working knowledge of WHMIS, OH&S standards, and First Aid.
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Geomatic Information Systems (GIS), and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems.
- Class 5 Driver’s License (a satisfactory driver’s abstract will be required).
What we Offer?
At the City of Leduc, we believe in taking care of our people. Here’s what you can look forward to:
- Work with a supportive and experienced team that takes pride in delivering safe, reliable water and wastewater services to the community.
- Competitive compensation and benefits, including health, dental, and wellness coverage, along with a healthcare spending account.
- Professional development opportunities, including technical training, certifications, and skill-building relevant to municipal utilities and operations.
- Free annual pass to City of Leduc recreation facilities, including access to fitness amenities and drop-in programs.
- Time off and flexibility to support work-life balance, including vacation starting at three weeks per year.
Important Notes!
- The successful candidate must provide a current Criminal Record Check and Driver’s Abstract at their own expense.
- As per the Drug and Alcohol Standard, this position has been deemed safety sensitive by the employer and as such is subject to reasonable cause and post-incident drug and alcohol testing.
