Chief Executive Officer - Ronald McDonald House Charities Atlantic
About the role
Since 1982, Ronald McDonald House Charities® Atlantic (RMHC Atlantic) has been a lifeline for families who must leave their communities to seek medical care for a seriously ill or injured child. Part of a respected global network of more than 387 Houses and Family Rooms worldwide, RMHC Atlantic provides comfort, care, and connection when families need it most. Its programs include Ronald McDonald House®, a welcoming “home away from home,” and two Ronald McDonald Family Rooms® in Halifax and Moncton, which provide respite and a sense of normalcy during the most difficult of times. Guided by a mission to keep families close, RMHC Atlantic is recognized as a place where families can heal better, together.
In April 2025, RMHC Atlantic opened the doors to a new Ronald McDonald House, a transformative facility located directly across from the IWK Health Centre in Halifax. Purpose-built to meet the growing needs of families, the new House offers bright, thoughtfully designed spaces for rest, play, and connection. More than a building, it represents the generosity of the Atlantic Canadian community and the next chapter in the organization’s mission to expand care and support for families across the region. Entirely sustained through charitable giving and volunteerism, with no operational government funding, it stands as a vibrant hub of compassion and hope, enabling families to focus on what matters most: being together for their child.
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) will provide visionary leadership at a pivotal moment in the organization’s history. Working in close partnership with a dedicated Board and a talented team of staff and volunteers, the CEO will guide RMHC Atlantic’s strategic direction, steward the long-term sustainability of the new House, and Family Rooms, and amplify the brand, visibility, and impact of the organization across the region.
The ideal candidate brings significant senior leadership experience, with the capacity to lead at the CEO level and to shape and execute strategic plans that drive growth and impact. With strong business and operational acumen, they are savvy in financial stewardship, human resources, and risk oversight, and ideally bring experience reporting to a Board. Recognized as a people-focused leader, they are known for building high-performing teams and fostering a culture of inclusivity, resilience, and collaboration. They are also a trusted relationship-builder and public speaker, engaging effectively with diverse stakeholders. Prior experience in mission-driven, volunteer-based, or federated organizations is considered an asset, as is experience supporting fundraising teams and sponsors to strengthen philanthropy and cultivate key relationships. Above all, the successful candidate will demonstrate an authentic passion for mission-driven work and a deep commitment to RMHC Atlantic’s role in keeping families close when they need it most.
