POSITION SUMMARY

The Canucks for Kids Fund (CFKF) is dedicated to assisting charities that support children's health and wellness, foster the development of grassroots hockey, and facilitate and encourage education in British Columbia.

The Accountant for the Canucks for Kids Fund is responsible for the integrity and accuracy of the charity’s accounting transactions and records, and also ensures the day-to-day accounting and finance related functions are compliant with CRA and GPEB regulations. This role will also support all our fundraising programs and events, with both administrative duties and management of key projects.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (Other duties may be assigned as required)

Finance

  • Assist with the preparation of monthly financial statements, maintain monthly balance sheet and profit & loss reconciliations, and monitor the budget with monthly variance analysis and forecasting
  • Coordinate year end audit with external auditors, prepare audit working papers and financial statements
  • Prepare and update annual budget in consultation with senior managers and officers
  • Monitor the annual budget against actual results and adjust forecasts accordingly
  • Assist the Executive Director with annual financial forecasting for program funding and granting
  • Advise and implement internal controls and process improvements
  • Prepare charity’s tax receipts and ensure issuance is compliant with CRA Charitable policies
  • Ensure compliance with CRA policies by staying up to date on new legislation, enforcing adherence to requirements and advising management on needed actions
  • Prepare all required government submissions, including T3010 Charity Info Return, GST and PST
  • Ensure compliance with BC Gaming Commission licensing requirements, reporting deadlines and fund disbursements

Fundraising Support

  • Assist with post 50/50 raffle operations and reporting, including following up with winning ticket holders, collecting required information and supporting documents, and preparing paperwork for finance team to disperse funds to the winner
  • Oversee the administration of the CFKF board, including taking minutes during meetings, managing the grant application process and liaising with applicants & beneficiaries
  • Coordinate the grant disbursement process, communicate approved organizations, confirming gaming eligibility with GPEB, preparing and issuing grant letters and ensuring yearly reports have been received from recipients.
  • Support CFKF fundraising events as needed
  • Assist with coordinating and executing special projects, event registration web sites, and auctions related to CFKF fundraising
  • Any other duties as assigned

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • At least 3 years of general accounting experience, with exposure to preparing financial statements and account analysis
  • Bachelor’s degree/diploma in Accounting or Business
  • Preference given to candidates with charitable sector experience or enrolment in the CPA program
  • Strong working knowledge of MS Excel, MS Word, and accounting systems, Microsoft D365 Business Central
  • Knowledge of current relevant legislation related to charities and not for profits
  • Strong work ethic, loyalty, and dedication
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with an ability to effectively communicate financial results to various members of the Leadership Team
  • Self-starter with effective organizational and time management skills, and the ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to analyze data
  • Must be able to work evenings and weekends as required
  • Able to work full-time in the office
