Position Description
Dr Nicola McCleary is recruiting for a Clinical Research Project Coordinator to support both the conduct and coordination of implementation science studies aiming to understand how to better align clinical practice in paediatrics with evidence. The position will span multiple research projects, initially including i) systematic reviews focused on understanding and reducing overuse in paediatric health care, and ii) evaluating the implementation of ovarian tissue cryopreservation as a form of fertility preservation care for children and adolescents with ovaries receiving cancer treatment. Research participants in our studies include patients, family caregivers, healthcare professionals, and healthcare leaders. The successful candidate will be an integral part of a growing research team and be involved in all facets of research and administrative coordination including grant applications, protocol development and registration, ethics submissions, data collection, analysis, and dissemination. This position is particularly suited to a well-organized multi-tasker with an attention to detail that enjoys both coordinating and conducting research.
Here's What You'll Get To Do:
Project related:
- Support the design and set up of systematic reviews, including protocol development and registration, and creation of data extraction tools
- Coordinate and conduct core systematic review activities
- Prepare, submit and maintain research ethics board applications for primary studies and ensure institutional approvals
- Develop informed consent documents based on regulations, research ethics board consent templates and institutional requirements
- Coordinate participant recruitment - provide study information, confirm eligibility, and obtain informed consent
- Coordinate and conduct qualitative interview studies, including protocol development, data collection, and data analysis
- Develop, administer, and analyze data from surveys
- Support assessment of implementation processes through consultation with implementers and analysis of documentation
- Coordinate the day-to-day operational processes of multiple projects, develop and maintain records of project activities and timelines, and manage project files, ensuring adherence to quality standards
- Maintain oversight of study expenses and ensure adherence to project budgets
- Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary research teams, including scientists, healthcare professionals, healthcare leadership, and family partners
- Prepare conference abstracts and manuscripts for peer-reviewed scientific journals
- Prepare reports and presentations for academic and interest-holder audiences
Other program activities:
- May assist with new research proposals and preparation of grant applications
- Conduct literature reviews and keep current with study literature
- Attend relevant departmental meetings or rounds to increase knowledge and understanding
- Support and supervision of other staff and students as needed
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Here's What You'll Need:
Must-haves:
- Master's degree in a health sciences or social sciences field (implementation science, knowledge translation research, health services research, health or social psychology, behavioural science, or a related field)
- Minimum of three years' experience in health services research or implementation/knowledge translation research (or a related field)
- Demonstrated experience conducting systematic reviews from initiation to completion
- Experience interviewing patients, family caregivers, or healthcare professionals in a research study
- Experience developing study protocols and submitting research ethics applications
- Demonstrated qualitative and quantitative data analysis skills and experience, and proficiency with relevant software (e.g. NVivo, R, SPSS)
- Excellent planning, organizational, and project management skills
- Superior time management skills with ability to prioritize across multiple projects
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to produce clear, well-structured academic and technical writing
- Attention to detail to ensure accuracy of data and protocol requirements
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Excellent computer skills, ability to work with Microsoft Office suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint, and experience with video conferencing software (e.g. Zoom, Microsoft Teams)
- A commitment to understanding and aiding in the pursuit of equity, diversity and inclusion objectives
Preferable:
- Research Coordinator experience
- Meta-analysis experience
- Proficiency with reference management and systematic review software (e.g., EndNote, Zotero, DistillerSR, Covidence, RevMan, Comprehensive Meta-Analysis)
- Experience with searching in bibliographic databases (e.g. MEDLINE)
- Knowledge of / experience applying implementation science, behavioural science, or process evaluation methods, and associated frameworks
- Experience liaising with a variety of interest-holders such as researchers, healthcare professionals, patients and families, system leaders, and other partners
- Prior publications in peer-reviewed journals or experience with manuscript preparation
- Experience in applied health research focused on child and/or adolescent health
