About the role

*This is a 2-year term position*

The Indigenous Student Services Centre (ISSC) provides culturally grounded, holistic supports to Indigenous students at the University of Winnipeg. The Centre supports student success through programming focused on wellness, food security, cultural connection and community engagement.

The ISSC-led Sun Life Indigenous Diabetes Prevention Program supports Indigenous students through diabetes prevention education, culturally relevant nutrition and physical activity programming, traditional food teachings, and access to healthy foods. The program aligns with Sun Life’s Theory of Change by emphasizing prevention, sustained behaviour change, and outcomes-based impact measurement. The Coordinator is a full-time term role responsible for program planning, coordination, delivery, evaluation, and reporting.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan, coordinate, and implement culturally relevant diabetes prevention programming for Indigenous students.
  • Coordinate workshops, presentations, and activities related to nutrition, physical activity, and traditional food systems.
  • Ensure programming aligns with ISSC values, Indigenous protocols, and Sun Life’s Theory of Change.
  • Manage program schedules, facilities, supplies, and logistics.
  • Engage Indigenous students through relationship-based outreach and culturally safe recruitment practices.
  • Collaborate with campus and community partners to promote program participation.
  • Coordinate participant accessibility needs and support inclusive participation.
  • Coordination of food security initiatives.
  • Coordinate the Emergency Food Pantry and Grab-and-Go Station.
  • Manage food procurement, storage, distribution, and partnerships with campus food services and external suppliers.
  • Coordinate food-related programming, including workshops and events using traditional and diabetes-friendly foods.
  • Monitor usage and accessibility of food supports.
  • Coordinate engagement with Indigenous Knowledge Keepers, Elders, and facilitators/dietitians, following appropriate cultural protocols.
  • Support honoraria, logistics, and relationship-building practices.
  • Collaborate with campus partners.
  • Support ethical and reciprocal partnerships aligned with Indigenous values.
  • Collect and maintain accurate program data, including participation, engagement, and demographic information.
  • Coordinate pre-, post-, and follow-up surveys to measure outputs and outcomes.
  • Track behaviour change indicators related to nutrition, physical activity, and knowledge.
  • Prepare annual reports aligned with Sun Life’s Theory of Change and funding requirements.
  • Support program promotion through social media, campus communications, and community outreach.
  • Coordinate recognition of program partners and funders in collaboration with ISSC and the University of Winnipeg Foundation.
  • Contribute to content development related to program activities and impact

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary degree in Health Sciences, Indigenous Studies, Nutrition, Kinesiology, Social Sciences, or a related field.
  • Experience coordinating community-based or campus-based programs.
  • Experience working with Indigenous students and/or Indigenous communities.
  • Experience in food security, health promotion, or wellness programming.
  • Experience supervising staff, contractors, or volunteers.
  • Strong organizational and coordination skills.
  • Ability to work respectfully with Indigenous Knowledge Keepers, Elders, and community partners.
  • Understanding of culturally safe and trauma-informed practice.
  • Ability to collect, manage, and report program data.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.

An equivalent combination of education, experience, skills, knowledge and abilities may be considered.

Condition(s) of Employment:

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.

The salary range for this position will be from $48,648.60 to $68,741.40 annually.

Note: The work described in this posting will be conducted in-person, with an opportunity to apply for Remote Work for up to one (1) day per week.
