About the role
Duties and Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Manager (Technical Services) and receiving guidance from the Director, Enterprise Application and Digital Transformation, Information Technology Services (ITS), the Systems Administrator is responsible for the installation, operation, and maintenance of computer systems across a multi-platform enterprise environment. This includes servers, operating systems, authentication systems, storage, backups, and network connectivity supporting university-wide applications and services.
The incumbent also administers enterprise ancillary systems that support campus operational processes, including the campus card and access management platform, ensuring reliable service, secure integrations, and lifecycle stewardship.
In addition, the role includes administration of the university’s enterprise workflow, request, and service management platform (Jira). This includes maintaining system configurations, facilitating user access, supporting integrations with documentation and code repository platforms, and helping ensure operational performance and integrity.

The incumbent must possess the following qualifications:

The incumbent must have developed analytical, problem solving and organizational skills

Ability to think logically through complex procedural and systems processes.

Strong interpersonal skills, including communication, presentation and consultation skills are required in order to resolve conflict and establish effective liaison and rapport with university staff at all levels.

Interviewing and group workshop skills

Being a motivated self-starter with a proven ability to work independently are all essential to the position.
Technical skills required include:
- Operating system administration across multiple platforms.
- Networked directory services and identity management.
- Virtualization platforms and system security.
- Automation and scripting languages.
- Web service platform administration.
- Database systems and SQL proficiency.
- Administration of enterprise workflow/service management platforms.
- Administration of enterprise operational systems supporting campus services and integrations.
Education and Experience:
The above is normally acquired through the completion of:
- An honours degree in Computer Science or a related field.
- Seven years’ experience in systems administration within enterprise environments, including support for multi-system integrations and large-scale operational platforms.
