Manager of Engineering and Asset Leadership

The Town of Smithers is seeking a strategic and collaborative individual to oversee municipal infrastructure, asset management, and lead engineering staff. This is a full-time, exempt position.

Surrounded by mountain ranges and beautiful lakes and rivers, Smithers is a northern gem. The town has a population of around 5,400 and is a service hub for the surrounding region comprised of approximately 15,000 people.

Residents enjoy four seasons of recreational activities; including a ski hill within half an hour of town, world-class fishing, backcountry and cross-country skiing, hunting, golfing and alpine trails for hiking and horseback riding, along with a lively music scene, boutique shopping, an art gallery and museum, an aquatic centre, and numerous family-friendly activities.

About this opportunity
Reporting to the Director of Development Services, the Manager of Engineering and Asset Leadership leads engineering staff and external partners in planning, delivering, and managing municipal infrastructure projects while driving asset strategies that ensure reliable, long-term community services.

This position offers a competitive salary of $91,890 - $102,100 (commensurate with experience).

Essential Qualifications Include:

  • Education in Civil or Municipal Engineering or a related field.

  • Certification with a related professional association such as the Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia or the Applied Science Technologists & Technicians of British Columbia (preferred).

  • Five (5) years of progressive experience in municipal engineering, infrastructure planning, or asset management.

  • Supervisory experience is an asset.

  • Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License.

  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
