Position Overview:
Under the direction of the District Child Welfare Service Manager, the Alternative Care Worker is responsible for providing alternative care resources for all children admitted by apprehension, as temporary wards, as crown wards, by care by agreement, or a special needs agreement. The Alternative Care Worker is responsible for recruiting, assessing, training, supporting, and supervising alternative care parents and selecting appropriate placements for children. The Alternative Care Worker is involved in the development of innovative and individualized placements for hard to serve children, and an emergency receiving program which includes the combined use of agency owned and leased homes and alternative care parent owned homes. All duties shall be accomplished in accordance with provisions of the Child and Family Services Act, Ministry Regulations and Standards, and Dilico Anishinabek Family Care policies and procedures.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- A minimum two-year Human Services Worker Diploma is required. A three-year BSW is preferred.
- minimum two years’ experience with Anishinabek children, youth, individuals, and families;
- preferably Child Welfare experience
- Candidates without the specific education qualifications and where the position does not require certified qualification to practice, but who possess an appropriate combination of experience and other academic qualifications will also be considered.
- satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Search;
- required to work flexible hours, travel regularly and to act on an “on-call” basis as determined by the respective Service Manager in relation to service requirements;
- must have a Class “G” Driver’s License, have a clean driving record, and have access to a personal vehicle which will pass a safety inspection.
Hours of Work: 32.5 hours per week
