About The Role WorkPac are seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer Transmission to develop and maintain design standards for the sub-transmission network, including 132/11kV zone substations, overhead lines, underground cables, and associated protection and control systems. This role provides technical leadership, ensures alignment of standards with operational and regulatory requirements, and collaborates across planning, design, construction, and asset management teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain technical design standards and specifications for sub-transmission assets
- Provide subject matter expertise in 132kV primary plant and protection system design
- Prepare, review, and update standard drawings, manuals, protection philosophies, and specifications
- Assess and implement new materials, technologies, and engineering solutions
- Engage and manage engineering consultants to support specialised design standards
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to integrate standards across the asset lifecycle
- Participate in tenders and technical submissions for sub-transmission equipment and services
- Support investigations into asset performance, product failures, or design non-conformances
- Ensure all standards comply with legislation, codes, and safety requirements
- Contribute to continuous improvement in safety, environment, and quality practices
- Mentor and coach team members to model organisational culture and behaviours
Skills And Experience Required
- Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering and ACT Professional Engineering Registration (or eligibility)
- Deep technical expertise in at least one of: substation design, transmission line design, or protection/secondary systems
- Ability to integrate across disciplines and manage external consultants
- Proficiency in CAD drawings, schematics, and technical documentation
- Experience developing or reviewing design standards and specifications
- Strong knowledge of relevant Australian and international standards, codes, and regulations
- Excellent written, verbal, and stakeholder engagement skills
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities
- Attention to detail, independence, and a strong safety focus
