Job Summary

The Senior Manager, Strategy is responsible for driving and overseeing the execution of specific strategic initiatives within CN, as directed by the Chief Strategic Officer (CSO) in collaboration with other senior leadership. The role is part of the Strategy team and interacts across functions at CN, including Operations, Sales and Marketing, Corporate Services, Finance, Human Resources (HR), Sustainability, and Investor Relations. The position is accountable for driving measurable value delivery on specific strategic initiatives.

Main Responsibilities

  • Run the execution of a specific portfolio of strategic initiatives

  • Articulate the set of available strategic options

  • Define the business value

  • Oversee the key deliverables, including financial models, communication of recommendations, and execution plans

  • Lead across functions by identifying and aligning Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) from across the business to execute on an initiative

  • Oversee the scope of work and the management of external service vendors as required

  • Deliver value in partnership with the business

Working Conditions

The role is performed in a standard office environment with a regular workweek from Monday to Friday and is eligible to participate in CN’s Flexible Working policy. Due to the nature of the role, the incumbent must be able to meet tight deadlines, handle pressure, and stress. The role requires minimal travel (up to 15%) within Canada and the United States (U.S.).

Requirements

Experience

  • Minimum 7 - 8 years of relevant experience

  • Minimum 4 -5 years of progressive experience in a consulting firm, ideally with exposure to strategy and operations

  • Experience and / or interest in Transportation and Logistics*

Education/Certification/Designation

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management or equivalent

  • Master’s Degree in Business Administration (MBA) or other advanced Degree*

  • Additional certifications such as Project Management Professional (PMP), Lean Six Sigma

Technical Skills/Knowledge

  • Knowledge of one or more of CN’s core functions (e.g., Transportation, Network Operations, Sales and Marketing, Finance or Information and Technology (I&T)

  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook) Teams and associated applications

  • Proficient in financial analysis and business valuation

  • Familiarity with Tableau or similar analytical visualization tool

  • Fluently bilingual, both verbal and written (English, French)*

  • Any knowledge for any of the above would be considered as an asset
