Software Engineer - XBRL Specialist
Top Benefits
About the role
Are you ready to help build innovative products from the ground up with a team transforming the accounting industry? Invictus is growing, and we’re looking for talented software engineers to join us as we develop leading-edge technology solutions for finance and accounting.
At Invictus, you’ll work alongside passionate professionals developing groundbreaking tools - some for commercialization, others to streamline and automate our internal processes. You’ll gain hands-on experience with the latest in AI, NER, cloud, and automation technologies as you help shape the future of financial reporting.
We are looking for a specialized Software Engineer to own the most critical output of our platform: XBRL tagging and taxonomy management. You will sit at the intersection of our AI models and global financial regulators (SEC, ESMA, CSA).
The Role: Software Engineer - XBRL Specialist
This is a high impact specialist role sitting at the intersection of software engineering, financial reporting, and global regulatory compliance.
You will own the most important output of our platform: XBRL and iXBRL tagging that aligns with IFRS, US GAAP, and international rulesets. You’ll work closely with our AI pipelines, taxonomy logic, and reviewer interfaces as you bring structured financial tagging to life.
If you’re an expert in XBRL, comfortable working across Python pipelines, XML heavy environments, and complex taxonomies, and you want to help build automated filing tools from the ground up, you’ll thrive here.
What You’ll Do
XBRL Development and Automation
- Architect, optimize, and maintain Python based XBRL and iXBRL generation pipelines
- Implement taxonomy mapping logic that connects AI classifications to IFRS and US GAAP elements
- Build automated validation layers aligned with ESEF and EDGAR rules
- Troubleshoot XML structures, validation errors, and schema driven constraints
- Produce high quality IXBRL output that passes regulatory requirements consistently
Last Mile Review Tools
- Build or support React interfaces or Office Add ins that allow reviewers to inspect and adjust tags
- Enable accountants to work visually with hierarchical data inside Word, Excel, or custom panels
- Ensure accuracy and usability across the entire tagging workflow
Cross Functional Collaboration
- Work directly with ML engineers, accountants, and product teams to align AI outputs with taxonomy logic
- Communicate dependencies and regulatory constraints clearly across teams
- Coordinate with offshore developers to deliver XBRL related features on time
Quality and Reliability
- Write clean, maintainable Python and React code
- Participate in code reviews
- Implement testing strategies for XML and XBRL generation, validation, and transformation workflows
What You Bring
Technical Expertise
- Strong Python experience with XML intensive pipelines
- Familiarity with lxml, Arelle, BeautifulSoup, or similar tools
- Deep comfort with XML, XPath, XSLT, and schema based development
- Ability to design scalable data transformation processes
Financial Reporting Knowledge
- Experience with IFRS or US GAAP taxonomies
- Understanding of XBRL taxonomy semantics and concepts
- Exposure to ESEF or EDGAR validation rules
- Background producing XBRL or iXBRL filings for public companies is a major advantage
Frontend and Review Tool Skills
- Experience with React or similar frameworks
- Ability to design intuitive interfaces for reviewing complex hierarchical data
Qualifications
- 3 to 7 years of software engineering experience
- Experience with XBRL, iXBRL, XML, XHTML, or structured document generation
- Strong problem solving skills, especially with nested or hierarchical data
- Excellent communication and collaboration abilities
- Experience with compliance driven or enterprise grade systems is an asset
Why You’ll Love This Role
- Direct ownership over mission critical XBRL workflows
- Opportunity to build automated filing technology in a field where modern tooling is rare
- Work with cutting edge AI, NER models, and next generation accounting tech
- Join a growing team and influence core product decisions
- Balanced hybrid environment built around focused, productive workdays
Why This Might Not Be a Fit
- If you prefer broad generalist work over deep specialization in XBRL
- If you’re not comfortable navigating regulatory standards or complex taxonomies
- If you prefer environments where XBRL expertise is widespread rather than niche
Compensation and Work Environment
- Hiring for both Junior and Intermediate levels, with compensation aligned to experience and skill level
- Salary range: 70k to 100k (flexible for the right candidate)
- Hybrid work environment from the Coal Harbour office with flexibility for remote days
- Full benefits package, including support for professional development
