About the role
Your Opportunity:
High River General Hospital (HRGH) provides healthcare services to the High River residents and surrounding communities including Calgary. HRGH services include 24-hour Emergency Department, Surgical Services and MDR Departments, Obstetrical Department, Cancer Care, Medical Inpatient Unit and multiple Outpatient Departments. As a Surgical Processor in the MDR, you will support busy Surgery and Endoscopy departments. The ability to speak, read, and write English fluently and be understood by others is essential. As you work with multiple chemicals, you will ensure you do not have skin issues that limit your ability to perform. You need manual dexterity, be able to perform repetitive tasks using fine motor skills, be in good health without physical limitations, be able to stand in place for long periods of time, bend, twist, and walk to cover large areas and responsibilities. The successful applicant will stand and walk over the course of the shift with minimal opportunity to sit. You will demonstrate the ability to work independently and productively, focus during times of high stress, and multitask, with frequent interruptions while maintaining attention to detail. As a Surgical Processor, you have the ability to work well with the team in the MDR as well as the patient care areas throughout HRGH. You will demonstrate sound judgement, flexibility, conscientiousness, honesty, accountability for your actions, and be service oriented.
Description:
As a Surgical Processor, you will be responsible for the decontamination, reassembly and sterilization of hospital supplies, equipment and surgical instrumentation. You will use the principles of aseptic technique and follow Universal Precautions in the prevention of Hospital Acquired Infections (HAI). You will ensure instrumentation and equipment is in proper working order, perform biological, chemical and quality assurance testing and report problems to the supervisor or designate.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited Medical Device Reprocessing (MDR) program. Completion of an Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) certification or Canadian Standards Association (CSA) certification.
Additional Required Qualifications:
1 – 5 years surgical processor experience in an acute care setting. 1 – 3 years endoscopy reprocessing experience. Competent in handling all Medivators and Steris System 1E equipment. Able to lift 18 kilograms (40lbs), push or pull carts weighing up to 114 kilograms (250lbs). Basic computer skills include MS programs: Word, Excel, Outlook and Teams. Current Connect Care access and/or previous experience with electronic health records.
Preferred Qualifications:
1 - 3 years active care rural setting experience. 1 – 3 years experience with ophthalmology instrumentation for cataract surgery.
